Reform Immigration FOR America Welcomes President Obama’s Comments, Will Continue Organizing Americans for Reform

Comprehensive Reform Key To Fixing Our Economy

Tonight President Obama said Congress should continue the work of fixing our broken immigration system. The Reform Immigration FOR America campaign shares the President’s position that we should continue to work on fixing our broken immigration system and that our history as a nation of immigrants and our diversity is a source of national strength. Congress and the President must go further, however. Our broken immigration system is a national crisis and an integral part of fixing the economy. The President and Congress must meet this challenge head on. Reform Immigration FOR America stands ready to work with Congress on bipartisan solutions to solve this pressing problem.

Tonight, the President rightly spent much of his address focusing on the economy and the dire jobs crisis. Americans are rightly focused on the economy. That’s why comprehensive immigration reform is so important. Fixing our broken immigration system is an integral part of getting our economy moving again. Comprehensive immigration reform will add $1.5 trillion to the U.S. economy, drive up wages for all workers, and support nearly a million jobs. It will improve the situation for all workers and honest businesses, and will bring more tax revenue into the system.

All over the country, Reform Immigration FOR America is organizing Americans in a mammoth effort to force Congress’s hand. Voters want and expect our leaders in Washington to act to solve tough problems, not just play it safe and reinforce the status quo. All over the country, voters are saying they want action on comprehensive immigration reform. An unprecedented bi-partisan coalition of faith, business, labor, civil rights, immigrant’s rights, agricultural interests, and activists has formed to urge the President and Congress to finally solve this problem for the American people. The President and the leaders of the House and Senate have repeatedly promised action on our broken immigration system. Reform Immigration FOR America is ready to work with the President and both members of both parties to ensure this promise is fulfilled.
