Right now, 1,100 people are deported every day under the Obama administration –  an all time high for deportations in the past 10 years.

Each person deported represents a family separated, a community suffering and a dream deferred.

On September 15th people of faith and community leaders will gather in DC to carry with them the stories of these families and of their own communities suffering. That day, they will call for Relief, Reform and Respect.

We deserve RESPECT as human beings.

We demand RELIEF from immoral deportation policies

We are determined to achieve real immigration REFORM for America.

We want to represent YOU in Washington, DC on September 15th. What does Relief, Reform and Respect mean to you? Tell us in the comments.

And then share this with your friends on Facebook and

to see what Relief, Reform and Respect mean to them too.

    The DREAM Act.

I dont think they will do the reform. Its a political gamble rather than giving the solution. Its possible only if Dems win in November which seems very
difficult. The only thing left is to pray God thats all we can do.Lets hope the best.

  • Sidney

Relief, Reform, and Respect for me means that I get to keep the beautiful person that fell into my life. That I don’t have to worry every day that he could be taken away from me without a chance to say goodbye.

  • Sandy

We need comprehensive immigration reform, including UAFA provisions. It will not be comprehensive reform if it does not include equal rights for LGBT individuals. To allow heterosexual couples to sponsor their spouses, but to disallow the same right to LGBT individuals is nothing but pure discrimination and this type of discrimination should not be tolerated in the US in 2010.

We also need to have fair system to allow law-abiding undocumented individuals to work towards citizenship and to be able to come out of the shadows and live and work in peace, without fear, while they work within the system to obtain a green card.

  • Mariela Nunez-Janes

Relief, Reform & Respect mean justice, justice means equality, and equality means love. We need laws that are based on dignity not politics, driven by the needs of those who are most in need not simply the interests and fears of a few. We need to enable young people to materialize their dreams and their families to stand behind them proudly and without fear.
We need Comprehensive Immigration Reform, we need the DREAM ACT!

  • Cristina

Relief, Reform, and Respect to me means not have to live in fear. We are here to make a better life for our family and for ourselves. We are here to do good in this country. We deserve to be treated as human beings. Without immigration reform, we continue to suffer. This is our life we are talking about. I know many may not care because it doesn’t affect them but put yourselves in our shoes for one day. This country does not function without immigrants. This country is made up of immigrants!

  • Matthew Baucco

America’s greatness is built around immigration. Until we have a system that treats immigrants as people and not pariahs we will not be living up to the ideals on which our country was founded. Building walls around our country and asking people to show their papers is the complete opposite of everything America is supposed to represent.

  • Mrs Castellanos

Due to the negligence on this government even before Obama came to be President, we who live in the beatiful and powerful country have been living in hell due to the fact that there is no immigration reform.
I can share that I have family meembers and friends that have been affected by this unfair and discriminated society. The government is making everything so hard to all of us immigrant even for those that are allready legar alies are having trouble in getting a job or requesting help.
Mr. President is time for you to show the country that you are a man of word and to finally pass a comprehensive immigration reform.
STOP separating families and STOP making children suffer hunger, shelter and love from their parent. Please pass the immigration reform this year as you promised during the elections.
I ask myself how would you feel or do if you as a parent that is under immigration process are told that you CAN’t work until a decision is taken on your case and you are the only provider in your family? thsi has to STOP TODAY.

  • Janet

My fiance and I live in constant fear. Everyday he goes to work, I wonder will today be his unlucky day? We’re tired of living like this! An Immigration reform is what all the undocumented immigrants who truly come here to better themselves deserve. These people including my fiance, want nothing more than a chance at the American Dream.

The United States is showing its ugliest face to the world. It is destroying lives and hurting itself with draconian laws that hurt not only the very people it needs to thrive but also every citizen. I want to see every person in the US, here legally or not have be free to have a choice to remain here, and become a citizen or be free to work and retain the citizenship of their homeland. I want everyone to be treated with respect

Obama has been working extremely hard since he has been in office. I think it is very unfair to expect him to undo all the mess the last president left behind. Americans have all been there before. I think there are massive important issues on the docket as of this moment. I stand by our President and have faith that WE all will be seeing the light at some point. Remember, it took Clinton a second term to make it all right!!

  • fletchtl

Common sense says if you are illegal then doesn’t that mean that you do not have the rights of a citizen. Come in legally and get to use the laws of our country. Come in illegally and be deported it is that simple. This country has more lax laws on illegals than any other country if anything we need to learn to stand our ground.

We have an ex-president going to North Korea to plead for the release of an American citizen who was imprisoned for illegally going into their country. Really people get a grip. It is not that we don’t want you here we just want you to do it the right way or do you think other countries repercussions are to harsh to jump their boarders?

  • Joy Augenstern

It is time to be intelligent, humane and courageous. People have great need for jobs to feed, support and educate their families. While I understand the problems, we have allowed certain mean-spirited people to define both the problems and their so-called solutions. It is time for a new approach.

Immigration reform now. Stop the deportations.Give us a chance to be a productive part of society. We want to work, pay taxes and live with dignity!

  • Angela Ferguson

To me, Reform & Relief for Immigrants means that Congress cover all of the basic issues:

    1. We need to legalize the millions who are here, contributing to our economy/communities. This could easily be done by moving up the Registry date. Currently, anyone who can prove they have been here continuously since 1972 can apply for permanent resident status. Move it up to 2005.
    2. We need to build forgiveness back in to the deportation process, so that people can earn a second chance if they deserve it. Give discretion and authority back to the Immigration Judges, by restoring 212(c) waivers and lowering the hardship from Exceptionally/Extremely Unusual Hardship to family, back to Extreme Hardship.
    3. We need to provide a better system for employers to obtain legal workers in a timely, cost efficient manner and enforce labor laws so that the immigrant workers are not exploited.
    4. We to increase the family and employer visa numbers so that there is not such a long line to immigrate to the U.S.
    5. All of the above would help increase the national security, by bringing people out of the shadows, allowing people to live here legally instead of participating in an underclass society, having to rely on false documentation for daily living.
Most importantly, keep families together – and that includes LGBT families.

  • Iboyka Bocsi

Please, stop deportations until you fix the broken immigration system. Immigrants that did not commit any crime shouldn’t be deported. Please help and not more families being separated.
    Thank You!

  • http://www.backstreets.com Paul Haider

We need a humane and sensible immigration policy now!!!

  • Christina

I think many Americans believe that all illegal immigrants can and should be deported. But this is something that will never happen. There are too many and there are too many families built with these people who have the status of being illegal. Most “illegal” people know America better than the country where they were born and consider America to be their home.

“Relief, Reform, and Respect,” means to me: Relief means I can sleep at night without worrying about making it through another day without my husband being deported. Reform means taking action. Obama has told us that he encourages those in shadows to come out and make things right, but has not given them a way of doing this. I want Obama to do what he said he was going to, and it is the ONLY reason why I voted for him; I voted for him so that he could take the fear out of my family. So far he has made me ashamed of him. Respect means that I will be respected as a citizen, and my son respected as a citizen so that my husband and his father can become a citizen too and respect that we are a family. Respect means that I will one day be able to tell someone that my husband is from Mexico without them asking me if he is illegal. Respect means that my husband who has lived in American and been a hard working man would be able to go to school to start a career like he would love to do rather than working 70-80 hours a week in a restaurant because that is one of the few places he can currently get a job; not because of the recession but because he is not respected to be the citizen of this country that he IS. Respect means that we can stop being judged by the color of our skin whether it be white, black, brown, or yellow. The Hispanic community currently suffers great discrimination and I LIVE that every day. As soon as we can own up to this and correct it, the sooner we can work towards making this the country that we all want it to be; one where we are all treated as equal.

Relief-for Families to stop being seperated. For the Obama administration to finally make a decision.

Reform: According to the Constitution the State does not have the right to make drastic changes like Arizona has done to date. I understand its a way to get the message out but the Constitution must be followed. It clearly states that the state does not have the right to do this so why is it being allowed? Injustice needs to stop. Its not only illegals being affected but citizens as well. I live in Georgia and I have got racial profiled a couple times this month already. A family member that is a citizen was forced to sign immigration deportation papers in jail. None of this is good news. Also I’ve heard that congress wants to change the Constitution. For Illegals that have kids–to make the kids illegal as well. How in the world does that seem humane? How is it easier to change the Constituion and not take action on some type of reform. People need to be evaluated on a case to case basis and given a chance if they are good people to society.

Respect: We need respect for all humanity. Supremecy-racism need to stop. We all know that it comes down to Hate Crimes being committed. Latinos are hard working and just want to work-do good. I agree-if you come to the US to commit crimes then go back home, but if you come here to work then whats the big deal?

  • Rick

The ability for my wife of 10 years to come out of the shadows, get a driver’s license, and be RECOGNIZED as a productive member of society.

I’m a born US citizen, and together with my undocumented wife we have two citizen children, we own two homes, cars, investments, and pay more in taxes annually than most americans make. She does not work, because of her status, but luckily for the last few years she has been a full-time mom for the kids. She speaks English and tries hard to be a part of society, but she avoids social settings and especially the police for fear of being taken from our small children, and as a byproduct so do all of us in the household including the born citizens.

Our current immigration laws do not provide families in our situation any path to resolution, other than deportation and a 10 year ban. Its simply not fair. So reform for us would mean a way for our family to come out of the shadows and live without fear. Pay a penalty, leave the country for a short period, whatever, just give us a way!!

    Thank you.

  • A. Warner

It means, no more separation of families and work hard to make of this country even better.

  • Theresa Salazar

As a daughter of an immigrant, I understand the value and respect that immigrants give to our great country. We need to put into place a pathway for immigrants to become legal. This does not mean a blanket reform, but one that consists of fairness and humanity. There are many immigrants who have lived in this country without being legal who are good citizens. They have raised families, bought homes and paid taxes. We need to look at those individuals who have lived here in the US for a number of years, who have never gotten into trouble with the law, who have children born in the United States and who have been good decent individuals, and find a way to help them become legal so they can feel safe and provide a secure life for their families.
I have seen families being split apart because of our immigrantion laws. I have seen only half a family be accepted to be legal and then ICE come and take away the rest of the family and deport them. Is this fair? Does this make for a safe and secure enviroment for children born in the United States? Is it fair for them to only get to see their mother when they have a vacation and can travel to Mexico to see their mother? We need immigration laws that give us relief and reform and allow us to have respect.

  • Laura Jackson

We need to treat all people in the US with respect and dignity. Reform immigration policy now

  • Stan Maticka

CIR is essential. For me, it is a christian responsibility. The Government’s focus should be on orderly immigration. Those who are in the country without documentation should be provided with a path leading towards citizenship. Immigration control should focus only on those intending to do physical harm or criminals who are trying to escape to another country. If you want to “limit” immigration do it by improving the countries people are immigrating from, so that there is no longer the need to immigrate in order to survive.

I’m 44 years old brazilian women living here in the USA for over 7 years . I’m having the opportunity to go to college now. I saved my money and paid my tuition in full. I worked hard and learned English . I ‘m totally involved with the American culture, I feel my heart half Brazilian and half American. Every day I go to school I pray to never get caught by any cop or any authority who could put me out of this country. It is not fair.. The money I make here I expend here . I pay my taxes every year using my ITIN number and I’ve been meting Americans which never did their taxes.

I would like to point out the immediate and almost complete failure of the immigration steps to prevent terrorism. There are a per capita small amount of people..from any culture..who are anarchistic..attritionistic..warlike..stupid and destructive..all prerequisites for being a politically oriented terrorist. There are a great many people confused. There are a great many borderline that are tired of hollering down a well. Oppressionistic laws and tactic make more terrorists..make a harder way to go for everyone. In the U.S. I believe and can argue to good purpose and result that ‘no law is credible if it does not meet constitutional muster’. Peace Tony

Relief: For all Americans to remember our own individual immigration heritage; with the exception of the Indigenous Americans we all came from somewhere else, had good reason to leave our parent countries and that dream still lives on in the heart of EVERY immigrant.
Reform: The Dream Act and further deregulation of the “Politcal Refugee” conditions, making it easier for those seeking refuge from oppressive governments, economic and natural disasters, war and violence to become Americans.
Respect: Every person, in every job, in every part of America, regardless of color, gender, orientation, faith or absense of faith, must be treated in the same manner as each person would treat a family member.

  • Diana

The current system is cruel and disrespectful to people who have helped build America and have supported the elite as minimum wage employees for years. The majority of Mexican immigrants are here to find a better future for their families. They are hard workers and respectful of our laws and our country. This feels like another holocaust– on US soil. My dream is that one day we can respect all people, regardless of color, race, and nationality. The color of ones skin should not determine acceptance and potential in what we call a “free country.” I’m embarrassed by the Arizona law and the disrespect. When Mexicans become our majority population we will have a Mexican president and then will we wonder why we are treated with disrespect? What goes around, comes around!

  • Jacqueline Stehr

It sickens me to think of immigrants hwo have been in this country for years; working for low pay, doing jobs Americans won’t do, taking care of children, cleaning houses — all to give their children a chance of a better life. Isn’t that why immigrants have come to the USA for 200 years? Now many of the relatives of immigrants from Europe who came here WOP — WITHOUT PAPERS — don’t want others to have the same advantage. The Latinos who live here pay taxes every time they buy food, clothes — anything. Let’s stop this mean spiritedness and come up with a fair system for families who have lived here and whose children are American citizens — which is something else l that the mean spirited want taken away. Latinos are here for the same reason most of this country’s people came here — for a better life. If things hada been great in their own countries, don’t you think they’d have stayed there. Only a handful came over on the Mayflower.

ALL WE NEED IS 245-I LAW, I HAVE A FAMILIAR PETITION SINCE 2003, NOW THE UCIS WANT THAT I LEAVE THE COUNTRY WHIT A FALSE PROMISE TO FIX MY SITUATION IN MY COUNTRY WHICH IS A BIG LIE,
PRESIDENT OBAMA PLEASE HELP US LIKE THAT WAY UNLESS.
ME AND MY MOTHER CRIED THE DAY YOU WON THE ELECTIONS,THINKING YOU WILL BRING THE IMMIGRATION REFORM,
    THANKS.

  • Trina

My situation is nearly identical to Rick’s except I am a female, natural born citizen and my husband remains in the shadows. He takes care of our two children. He’d love to work, but it’s too dangerous to be out and about any more than what is absolutely necessary. He’s a good person. Speaks english well (Lord knows I don’t speak spanish, although I should learn after 7 years of marriage) and has assimilated into the American culture.
No one can change the past. He entered the country the way he entered. If he had it to do over again, he absolutely would have done things differently. This administration needs to look at how we can move FORWARD with families who are already here and are contributing members of society instead of looking back at how they got here.

  • Niala

A Law without Justice is a bad Law. Tell the Administration and the Judges to apply the Law with Justice. And tell Congress to reform the Law with Justice within the spirit of our Founders.

  • Kathleen Quinlan

I try to be realistic here. I blame congress, mainly the republicans and conservative democrats for the lack of any progress in immigration reform. To expect that Obama can do anything in the current political client is simply unrealistic. We risk turning people off and ending up with a right wing government that will make the Arizona law the virtual law of the land. The republicans and Tea Party folks need to take a loss, due at least in part to a high turnout of Latinos, to learn their lesson.

In both my work and private life I constantly see people whose lives on our hold due to the inability to get legal status for undocumented spouses. This is due to a substantial change in the law regarding fiance/marriage visas after 9/11. It is way past time to return our law on this issue to pre-911 rules. It would be a simple change (don’t call it a reform, it would never pass) that would effect thousands and thousands of people. The current law is anti-family in the extreme!

  • Gloria

Unless you are 100% Native American, your ancestors came from another country. We have to put a stop to this destructive deportation practice; and remember that many of the conveniences and scientific advances that we depend on each day were the result of work done by immigrants. If this country hopes to maintain any sort of leadership role in the world, we must avail ourselves of the amazing resource of the people who have struggled to be here. If we acknowledge our immigrant population and work to find a productive solution for their continued residence, we will all win.

  • Jacqueline Stehr

We definitely need reform so those who have lived in the shadows, working for the lowest wages, taking care of gardens, children, whatever it took to survive
can become Americans. There is no fair system that has been worked out; it needs to be done for the millions who have contributed to the growth of this country and yet have not been allowed to be a part of it.

  • Elena

We need to keep families united, we need Life Act 245i!!!

  • Sebastian

I am a US citizen and I want the DREAM ACT to pass. No more undocumented students being deported for not obtaining a green card. They have worked hard or even harder than a US citizen student to get their degrees. And it is not right for them to lose everything that they have worked so hard for.

  • betty greene

    make them legal

  • Alicia

To me this just mean we need all this because its the land of the free and home of the brave! This beautiful country since I can remember means FEEDOM of everything! That’s the AMERICA I always knew and heard off!! So give us that freedom by fixing that problem and NOT deport no one unless they deserve it!!

  • Joaquin Portillo

Respect is one of the most fundamental human rights, and this country has always done what is right all over the world. USA needs to go back to its roots and understand that a position that ignores this fundamental right will only weaken the country; this is America we have the responsibility to strengthen and defend our fundamental rights at home first.

When somebody is in trouble America has always stand up and help, we are calling the country to stand up and offer a relief to the thousands of immigrant families that are being separated, separating families is not the solution to the problem but the beginning of a greater problem for this families.

Immigration reform is the real solution to the situation; America has a moral obligation to the thousands of immigrants, who are only guilty of seeking a better life for them and their families, the wait has been long but I am confident that at the end, America will do the right thing.

  • Maricel

We need comprehensive immigration reform NOW,including DREAM ACT and everything.

  • Armando A. Garcia

Relief, Reform and Respect to me means a new Amnesty Act of 2010.

  • Cindy

It means we live i a country that stands by what it has believed in for over two centuries. A land built on tolerance, freedom and justice for all.

  • Benny

It is now two years and thousands of dollars spent on corrupt lawyers and my sister, who is a citizen, has been apart from her husband. Her husband is hard worker who wanted to open his own business and employ US Citizens before he got deported. Why does America deny this man entry – he is the symbol of the American dream. You can’t imagine the pain my sister and family go through each day this situation is not resolved, when is enough enough?
My uncle, his wife, and daughter also got deported and had to leave behind their other 2 children. They paid their taxes and worked hard each day but because of errors on his initial filing the government decided to deport them. They have been in America since 1983, lived here longer then in their native country. Where to go and how to see the other 2 kids. Their daughter was a straight A student and had a full college scholarship and now her dreams of becoming a professor and helping US Citizens with their education is gone.
Something needs to be done ans done now. This is America not communist Cuba. We do more to help other Nations instead of our own. Also, I am not Mexican but all the Major states of deportation California, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona all used to belong to Mexico and America fought to take it away and expand the Union. How is that fair? Mexicans should stand up and let everyone know those states are your mother land.

  • Joel Scott Strauss

It is unfair to separate families. If these people show respect and do good acts, including work, then they should be allowed to stay in the U.S.

  • Sandra

Comprehensive immigration reform would allow people who are living in the US now to come out of the shadows/stop living in fear and would provide a legal pathway for future immigrants.

We also must begin to address the role that US trade policy plays in increasing immigration flows by cutting off opportunities for people in their own countries. Since NAFTA took effects real wages have declined in Mexico and employment in both manufacturing and agriculture have DECLINED, leaving many with no choice but to migrate.

  • Patricia Sherman

At the very least, it means providing a means for citizenship for anyone who wants it, without regard for country of origin. What I really envision, however, is a world with no national boundaries, where people are free to come and go and remember that they are part of humanity, not a specific geographical location.

  • LTC Mike

I came to this country in 1950 as an 11 year old boy on an Immigration Visa from England. I was issued a real GREEN Card. I became a US Citizen when I was eligible at 18 years of age. I finished university here. I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army in February 1962. I retired as a Lieutenant Colonal in April 1986.

I feel we need comprehensive immigration reform. However, I see no problem with enforcing our laws and deporting illegal aliens who violated our immigration laws. I do not know why people think enforcing immigration laws is aimed at latinos. Any illegal alien should be deported. Many Europeans come here on holiday and never leave. They also need to be deported.

It just happens that we do have more latino illegal aliens since it is easier to cross our southern border.

Change the law let these people already here receive work visas. Put then behind all aliens trying to enter legally. Eventually when they learn English let them assimulate inth the USA as I did as a young boy.

  • Leonardo Toledo

I came to the US in 1989, as a 28 years old man, and stayed until 2008 ( Bush Administration ). I had been deported from my home, with my sons and wife being left behind. My deportation was based on a non compliance with a ” Voluntary Departure” issued on the year 2000, where my lawyer did not go forward on appealing it, and a Immigrant Judge trying its best, but not able to use its discretionary power due to the laws since 1987 and 1992 retro acted and conflicted themselves.
All those years of trying to legalize myself, proof to be impossible, I overstayed my tourist visa, no denial on that, my American born sons were not guaranty that an `Anchor` was rooted in , as I am living proof of that is a misconception…
But I can tell that `American Families `are being destroyed as my family is at this moment, living in two different Continents… How can I and my wife do not worry about two young men fending for themselves in New York City?
I had paid all my taxes,my English is not that bad, and I can only thank America for the good things I have learned and the opportunities I had everywhere I went.
I can tell how hard is to reinvent myself at 50 , in Brazil, without the everyday things I used to call home and above all, my family.
The damage of deportation is real and the system where Immigration Judges have no discretion and only laws where, ´strong hardship `becomes non tangible concept is just to hard to grasp.
Here I am , I am not a criminal, I have strong connections to this land and all the good accomplishments and friends and family left behind.
Law is not an exact science, it is not something you solve from just applying from the books, that why we need competent judges with better drafted laws where the abstraction of the wording do not tear apart the core of what is the most important.

    Best regards,

    Leo Toledo

Most of us are descendants of undocumented immigrants those who are here now need the same opportunities our ancestors had.

Comprehensive immigration reform would allow people who are living in the US now to come out of the shadows/stop living in fear and would provide a legal pathway for future immigrants.

We also must begin to address the role that US trade policy plays in increasing immigration flows by cutting off opportunities for people in their own countries. If there were good paying jobs in their own contries they would stay there.

  • Kim

We need UAFA included in any kind of immigration reform. 21 other countries have enacted some version of this, why is the U.S. so far behind? It’s 2010 already. U.S. citizens deserve the right to sponsor the person they fell in love with. We deserve, individual liberty.

  • maryann moon

I truly believe that Obama does not disrespect people, especially because he’s a member of a minority
group himself. As one, he knows the harm that’s done by deporting people on a regular basis daily.
We voted this wonderful guy into office for desperately needed change and I have not been disappointed by him since he’s been in office. He’s under tremendous pressures every day from people who despise and
oppose every breath he takes and any changes he wants to make for the betterment of US citizens lives.
I don’t know who’s behind this campaign, but it sounds like a bunch of angry Tea Partieirs who are
furious that Republicans were voted out of the White House this last time around.

It means freedom for our wonderful daughter-in-law to stay in this country, and for their loving family not to be broken apart.

What we NEED is to re-examine our trade policies with countries such as Mexico. What we NEED is to examine how NAFTA, CAFTA, the failed war on drugs, is effecting the countries/economies we have imposed this garbage upon. What we NEED to do is recognize that perhaps WE are the cause of this perceived issue with immigration. And once we see who is at the core issue, who is the causational factor in the migration north and to the U.S., perhaps then we can enact more humane, and less bureaucratic redtape to a healthy and functioning immigration structure.

Let’s stop the demonization of all peoples who do not fit the Good Ol’ White Boy paradigm.

It means respect for people and their children who have the same right as other European illegal immigrants to work with dignity and make their dreams come true for their children. It also means respect to a class of people that is determine to have a decent right in life, hard working and honable. This is America were they treat them as criminals and are persecuted as the romans persecuted the christian. What a real SHAME for OBAMA and its government.

We need reform and to stop discrimination of any kind, but don’t blame Obama he’s doing all he can and he’s not a magician!

  • Margaret France

The time has come for effective immigration reform! We must quit exploiting people with the double message “Help Wanted” and “Border Closed”. People are desperate to provide the basic necessities of life for themselves and their families. Do not put this issue on the back burner any longer — resolving this issue will remove it from the scare tactics that are pervasive in so many elections in this country!!!

  • Carol L. Haddad

No more immoral deportations. I am 80 years old. Never have I been so afraid that my country is becoming LESS tolerant as each week passes.

I lost a friend in Selma, Alabama. His name was Rev. Reeb and he died for a noble cause.

I am saddened to think of any family that is separated and wish there was more I could do.

Where is the change in immigration policy that has been promised by a few politicians?

We have waited the 100 days……. How much longer must we wait to be united
with our families… how much longer do we we have to sit in your concentration camps,, how much longer do we have do live in fear, suffering
oppression, haressment, discrimation, racial profiling, and the many other
abuses infflicted up us????we are praying for our congress and our senate to
do the humane thing to give us our well-earned legalization,, but we expect
our president to STOP THE RAIDS!!!!STOP THE DEPORTATIONS!!!CLOSE THE
DENTENTION CENTERS OF CORPORATE AMERICA.. WE HAVE TORN DOWN THE BERLIN…

As the president of an organization that serves Peruvian-Americans here we will not give up on our quest for a reform and/or a comprehensive solution to our immigration problems. We cannot forget because we are now American citizens how it is was or how we started. We must continue to march and form groups and be heard and not stop until there is equality for all. We should all join bigger groups as one big movement. Just consider if every undocumented person in this country would pay taxes we would most definetely be out of this recession which is not getting better but actually gearing towards a depression. We can not rely on hope or God or wishful thinking we must be proactive and never stop our clamor until we are heard and accounted for. Our children should have the right to education and not be punished for having respected and abided and lived within our society. Does our goverment want to force our children into a work force labor we chose as immigrants and we do with pride in the hopes that our children will be one day professionals and better than us…That is what immigration is all about: integration, inclusion and acceptance. Please continue to support a comprehensive immigration reform!!!!

  • Mark Wemple

Our current obsession with deporting otherwise law abiding, hard working people is outrageous and non-productive. Our country needs these people more than they need us. We must remember that the changes in the law that many desire, if they were retroactive would essentially cause the majority of whites to be deported. Timing alone should not change ones fate. We need to focus our energies on ways of moving this country forward not backwards, as we are heading in the area of immigration law. Change should have meant for the better not the worse.

  • Tony Day

I am fortunate. I am here on an H1B visa, but when my current contract expires in 3 years time I am able to return to my home country without hardship. Many young people are here without choice, being brought to the United States when they were infants, have known no other life and have no prospects to “return” to. To criminalize them for the “sins” of their fathers is in itself a criminal act, maybe not in the eyes of the law, but against humanity and common decency. The DREAM Act provides a path to citizenship for young people who are prepared to work for it – it is no golden ticket. The majority of US Citizens support this, why has it not been enacted, what are the politicians afraid of? I am tired of hearing the moaning about the cost of immigrants (undocumented and otherwise), to society. Well, I pay taxes, I pay into Social Security (although I will never gain any benefit from it), and am happy to do so. Every immigrant should be given the opportunity to make the same contribution to society.

We need to keep families together… Respect Human Rights…I think deporting people for trying to make a better life for themselves and their families is ridiculous… If they are part of gangs or trafficking drugs or killing people etc… Send them back… Back look at the whole picture… We have all done things in our lives that we aren’t proud of.. We need to stop pointing fingers and look at ourselves… How many chances have we gotten…Judging these people is not what we should be doing… Instead let them stay… Let them do the things they need to do legally… Make the changes necessary to let people start living their lives outside the shadows of fear…

  • Janice

Yes, UAFA needs to be passed very soon. It covers a group of people who do not receive as much attention to their plight as they deserve. When we hear about immigration reform, we usually just hear about one group of people who are being affected by this country’s outdated immigration laws.
Please don’t forget the rest of us who live with the heartbreaking reality that we have been, or will be in the future, cruelly separated from our loved ones and the family that we have become. What have we done wrong? We fell in love with someone of our own sex! The current law is cruel, heartless, and it goes against what this country is meant to stand for…..Freedom, Justice, and the equal treatment of all its citizens!

  • Jan

Immigrants leave their homes to try to find a better life. They are mostly willing to do the things that most natural born citizens consider below them. We need to ensure All people’s safety and respect.

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

    Hey this says it all.

It’s a shame the way this country is treating the very people who make the economy HAPPEN, countless homes needing an owner and obama deporting them.
I feel somebody needs to tell him about this, the economy will never recover unless he fixes immigration reform with a FINE to the tresspassers

I believe everybody should get a second chance, and i think we immigrants should get a opportunity. Why because i really believe we deserve it, we do the same labors a u.s. citizen does sometimes more. Is time to take action and get what we deserve.

  • Perry Callas

My paternal grandparents immigrated here from Greece, and I am certainly thankful the level of anti-immigrant hysteria was at a lower level then, or I may not exist. Every single American is an immigrant or a descendant of immigrants, so the demonizing of recent arrivals is nothing more or less than political propaganda designed to garner votes. We have to remove scapegoating politicians from office and reclaim the proud America tradition of welcoming those who seek a better life.

  • Giselle

Some people claim that you should do things right and do whatever it takes to become a legal resident/citizen. I agree. If they only knew that even when you fill out all the paperwork and comply with all the requirements, it still takes NOT days or months, but YEARS and YEARS of waiting to get the USCIS (U.S. Citizenship & Immigrations Services) just to review your paperwork. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!! I have been waiting for 15 years to get a response from them and have not received anything yet. Every time I check the status of my documents they are sent back few more years.
My kids are American citizens, and they live afraid that I or his father won’t be coming back home from work one day… Kids and families don’t deserve to live in fear like we were living in the era of the Gestapo.
This is America! It’s suppose to be a civilized and fair country like Abraham Lincoln said it: “All man are created and should be treated equal”!
It is horrible to live in fear. The fear to be treated as a criminal and be punished for being a hard worker; for having a bachelors degree; for paying your taxes every year; for volunteering in the community… it just does not make sense, it is a stupid contradiction.
It is horrible to follow the American Dream and still feel that you live in some kind of a “golden cage”, without the liberty to drive around the city without the fear of being chased and caught because of the color of your skin or appearance.
It is horrible to miss your relatives and family left behind, because you are not able to travel to see them. To lose loved ones and live without proper closure as you were not able to see them before they departed and to realize that you won’t see them EVER again.
My father got sick and died in my country of origin and I was not able to see him before he departed. I wasn’t able to hold his hand while he was sick, or to tell him I love him face to face… I was not able to say good bye. I could not bring a flower to his funeral. I instead, prayed miles away, mourned and cried all alone… I wish this does not happen to anybody else.

Immigration Reform Means The United States of America. Our forefathers of this great Country of ours were immigrants of the past and were responsible for building our Country. It is and always will be the new immigrants who will rebuild and sustain our Country for generations to come.

To make a long story short the immigration situation has taken my love from me. He has been here since he was 6, didn’t even know he wasn’t a citizen until he was older. I completely fell in love with him and he with me. We would be married by now but he feels terrible that he wouldn’t be able to provide for me. Thus it ate at him, and me until it destroyed our relationship.

You say you don’t exist, But I see you before me, How can I resist, When I see a future for me

You’ve let me under your mask, But still I don’t know your pain, And all I can do is ask, And hope for you to explain

Even then I cannot know, The sorrow you must feel, All I can do for you is show, How well I can deal

My love for you is deep, More than you could know, The loss of you too steep,
    Please Please, Please don’t go

  • Robin C. Rutan

Since the economy fell, many foreign born people have returned to their homelands taking their children. The schools are low on enrollment, teachers are being laid off, the grocery store aisles are emptier of people and there are even less jobs and the employers are cutting wages. The cities and states are collecting less taxes.

  • Fay

I’m in agreement that Arizona’s “Secret Service”-style “anti- immigration” legislation is only going to create problems, not solve them. It just gives a department, who already has a proven HORRIBLE track record for not only misuse of power and authority, but BLATENT abuse of it, even MORE liberty to violate anyone’s human rights at will!

Legal or not, no human being deserves to be beaten mercilessly while hand-cuffed and held down by 2, 3, or more fellow thugs! Of course, the code of the brotherhood will ensure a successful cover up in the name of “self-defense”)!
I try not to be a cop hater and I know there are cops who really honor the badge and want to make our neighborhoods and communities a safer place for people to live and raise families. For those men and women, they have my blessings and my complete respect.
I’m a law abiding citizen along with everyone else in my social circle. It’s amazing how many think that absive types are the rare exception to the rule. Unfortunately, there are more of them than people realize and they are not the exception to the rule. A number of them find it easier (and safer) to bully and harrasss petty offenders than to apprehend the armed robbers, tweeked out dope dealers, pimp daddies or gang banger hoods! After all, those guys carry weapons and won’t hesitate to use them if they feel they’re in danger.
On the other hand, and in some defense of the president, one must ask, what does he use as criteria for who stays and who goes? Is he deporting people who have renew their work visas to the max, without going through the proper channels to obtain citizenship? Or, is it someone whose just trying to marry some poor unsuspecting over-weight woman with low self-esteem, only to disappear immediately after the ceremony? Is it someone who paid the ‘coyote’ to dump them off in the middle of the desert whose managed to “fly under the radar” for years.
Hey, I have no problem sharing my country with someone who wants a better life and I certainly don’t blame them. However, I stil,l say, they need to go through the proper channels to get their citizenship just like every other immigrant must do. We have enough trouble with unemployment right now. I don’t like the idea of folks who are here illegally, who will do shoddy work for half price. It makes a bad situation, worse. It’s not right that a lot of immigrants can get free health care when we have to pay “through the nose for it”for it!
This is a little more personal but it matters nonetheless. People who come to our contry, who disrespect our way of life, our laws, who don’t even BOTHER to learn our primary language the main language (and it’s NOT Spanish), should leave!

  • Raquel

R,R,& R means that we live in a civil thinking society that does not live in fear, ignorance and is not dictated by talking heads who think in archaic terms. We have such a complex political society that even those politicians that enter the system with good intentions are attacked aggressively by those who are determined to take them down at any cost. Sponsoring a family or individual is a great way to protect their safety and get them to citizenship. We need to voice our ideas and concerns to all of our political representatives even when they are determined to fight or manipulate against “reform”

  • Robyn Lopez Melton

Immigration reform is essential to the well being of my family. My husband immigrated here 9 years ago with the dream of creating stability for his family in Mexico. Instead he found me, fell in love and we began a family together. We have been married for 8 years have beautiful 7 year old daughter and a son on the way. We hoped that marriage would someday resolve our situation and we could begin to live without the constant fear of being separated. Our hopes have not been realized. In fact, life has become more difficult. Immigrants are no longer invisible and ignored. The general public perception of an immigrant has become that of an invader, someone who wants to take what is rightfully “theirs.” In the current economic down turn much of the blame has been placed on the immigrant who takes jobs from people who have ‘rights.’ My husband’s work environment has become increasingly more hostile towards the Latino immigrants and he was unable to renew his driver’s license in our state. Hard working, taxpaying families are being treated like second class citizens and criminals and are being denied basic human rights. In a country that has worked so hard to improve civil rights, dismantle racism and create “liberty and justice for ALL,” people still feel it is ok to treat immigrants poorly because our laws and language label them “illegal” and therefore they are seen as criminals. Immigration reform and relief needs to happen now, before this discrimination becomes more widespread and legalized like is happening in Arizona. I believed in the change promised by Obama and believe that this administration has the power to make real change; I want to again believe in the goodness and fairness of our country. Reform must happen now.

  • Gopal

I have been paying my keen attention to the issue of Comp. Imm. Reform.
I feel the entire population in question can be devided in very clear and understandable segments.
STUDENTS: Assumably from hardworking families who know the value or aspire for educated children. Then there is this child in which the SOCIETY has already invested thosands of $$$dollars until they clear high school. Now as soon as this kid could become a productive member of the society we are either stopping them from going further thru college or criminalizing. Does that make much sense not to get any return on this investment made rather we would now spend money to throw this huge body of students out some where.
AGRICULTURAL WORKERS:Without them if you have also seen COLBERT,s show: on country wide open advertising only three people took the jobs these so called ILLEGALS are doing for this society. We should not fool ourselvs. If the fields are not harvested all our greens and fruits will be imported at significantly higher cost. You know who will be at the taking end: us.
THE BAD GUYS: People caught for criminal activity for which the JAIL TIME is more than one year: Toss them out after gathering all indentification marks etc. so that these guys are not able to come and hide here amongst us. HOW. THE COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM. No ten years of due process and feeding them in our EXPENSIVE jails. We got better things to do.
Let us ASK OUR REPRESENTATIVES TO COME ALTOGATHER ON THIS NOW.

  • Frances Goff

Immigration Reform means we white people need to own that our ancestors stole the land from the indigenous and need to make up for that; immigration reform means REPEAL NAFTA OR OPEN THE BORDERS; immigration reform means liquidate the World Bank and IMF; immigration reform means repeal all fascist legislation aimed at people of color in the US; immigration reform means substantial fines for US corporations that offshore in any form; only when all these values are solidly in place can immigration be reformed.

  • Shawnna

It means for me, having my beautiful, talented ,daughter-in-law be allowed to stay in the only country she has ever known. Push forward the Dream Act and allow her and so many like her to be able to do what they want so badly…to be productive members of our society!

  • Holly Garcia

While we need reform, if you truly want it, I think people from both sides need to listen. Saying that people that don’t agree with you have anti-immigrant hysteria is not helpful. While we need to reform the paperwork, and have some judges look at issues of people who have been here “since they were 6″ etc., the problem is the mass influx that we cannot sustain, along with the crime. I am friends with many hispanics both legal and possibly illegal. We need to stop most immigration from hostile countries (most muslim countries in the middle east). And increase LEGAL immigration from the South and DECREASE paperwork and time for legal immigration. The problem is, it is being run by government, the least effect machine on the planet. If we could introduce volunteers, churches etc. to help with paperwork, create a less hostile environment, I believe it would make things a lot better. But, truthfully, it doesn’t sound like most here are about immigration reform, more that you want amnesty. Maybe you should consider not blanketing all illegal crossers as immigrants, and just work on helping those who need it. I would never support a group that is so generalized. This was meant to be helpful, possibly you will not take it that way. With a multitude of hispanic children in my own family, I would like to see change, but not the type that Obama promises to bring.

    Dear Friends,
Living in America is a gift, and there is plenty of room for all of us to live here in Peace. Learning about one anothers culture is exciting, and respect is necesssary in order to treat one another with dignity. Most all of us came from immigrants at one time. Deporting and dividing good families here working toward naturalization, should not be happening! It appears to me, like one group of people have been chosen to carry a heavy burden. We need to treat people for who they are, and not by the color of their skin. Native Americns settled all of America, and they too went through terrible persecution.Separating Children from their Mother and Father,is a dishonorable deed. Isn’T America better than this?

    God Bless,
    Deborah

and not by the color of their skin. All through history,Native Americans were persecuted and they settled all of America. Why these groups I ask? We should all have the same rights as others, and become a great part of this land called America.

    Love, Deborah

I have a friend who has been here eight years, owns her own business, pays taxes, I have seen her tax returns, owns a home, in her brother’s name, and has no home in Chile to go home to because of a natural disaster that destroyed it and it can not be rebuilt because of government fears of another tsunami. I think our government should offer her options other than simply getting married as a route to American citizenship. She is as straight arrow, law abiding, loves America, as you can get. At the same time she is scared spit less of police because this country considers her to be a criminal. We simply must find a way to accommodate these kinds of people whose only “crime” is a desire to become an American citizen, a desire so compelling that they live daily with the oppression and fear imposed on them by our out dated immigration laws. Let us find the American compassion necessary to address the need of our country and these deserving people.

  • Kathy Pastryk

Prepare NOW for the interim election on November 2!! We must vote for candidates who will support comprehensive immigration reform. To accomplish that we must change the composition of our House and our Senate. Actively campaign for sensible, dependable representation. Be informed. Educate yourself thru the internet. Buttonhole your friends, family and coworkers, talk to them, register them and help those who can vote to make wise decisions at the polls. Voting has never been more important. Conventional wisdom says that Republicans are going to take some seats. Some expect a landslide brought about by Obama-haters – which would be tragic. Remember it is the Congress that makes the law. Congress must do what is necessary so that the deserving undocumented people who yearn to be citizens CAN BE 100% AMERICAN — legitimately.

freedom ? the poor people have no access to the freedom ! …money buy papers..only papers…we must help this people if we want our own freedom …

rich people buy visa , pasport or other ways to enter …its ok. but people ho came to work in fields, restaurants, ect. ect..

    the reform is imperative !!!

  • http://none Delana Darrow

It means regonizing all people have rights to be in this country legaly securing our boards and doing all checks on people before entering our country, but not impending on thier rights. Our spreading hate and fear..

  • http:yahoo.com Candy

Until we start being honest about what this issue really about, we’ll continue to use undocumented workers as the last target of hatred and discontentment with our failing leaders’ approach or lack of leadership in starting the debate that will lessen but never end the need for people to migrate to a place of opportunity, in the spirit but not the acttions of our Founding Fathers’ decision to abandon their homelands to achieve the fairness and good living denied to them by the Kings and Queens, the ruled and rule to date, their homelands.

Undocumentation doesn’t solely create the crime that is attributed to it, but the need for greed, abuse of the underserved across the globe and the mire fact that the global wealth is and has for centuries been grabbed by a few or small percentage of abusive landowners, big business and religious leaders.

President, Barack H. Obama, can do better by making sure he demands and leads the country in making sure all people in America are equal in Human Rights, civil rights and a chance of living a good life through the chance of a good education for all Americans.

  • http:yahoo.com Candy

Immigration reform for all undocumented workers, through a comprehensive bill that keeps families together and offers a fair process to citizenship for all Americans here now and willing to get at the back of the line of the process.

President, Barack H. Obama, hopefully will be the one to put his energy and power, to achieve a possible immigration reform that will do better than simply putting up fences/borders, to achieve the only way for this issue to be solved by being intelligent and not hot-headed. Allowing the Good Ol’ Boy hatemongering to continue to rear its evil head when it deemed necessary, in order to release the bursting hate it can no longer contain within its self.

  • Herb Long

Immigration reform is long past due. This is a global issue and the US lags behind in passing reform that is both just and compassionate. The time is NOW!

  • Ilene carson

immigraton reform isa personal issue for mw.we have seen friends and family who are good citizens who are adding to the fabric of this country,I had always thought growing up here and living multi cultural neighborhoods that we were an inclusive country.what I have found is exactly the oppisite.I f you are a caucassion chances are your path for becoming legal here is possible.people with brown skin are feared and hated. critics point to the jobs that havr been taken which everyone knows is outrageous.fear is the waepon that is used and we as a country seem to by all the hatred that the so called real americans spread.. let us once again become a country that respects human rights that does not fear others but embraces them .no longer will children fear be seperated from their families.please give me back the country that I used to respect.

The DREAM Act is what reform means to me and it’s time to pass it NOW!

  • http://j_auris@yahoo.com Jean Auris

President is between a rock and a hard place. Damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. He wants Congress to act on this but the Republicans say NO. We must address the issue. So many good hispanics here and they are good workers also. The paperwork is long spent. America is this, the white europeans came and did genocide to the many tribes of native americans. Then came the black people and slavery along with lynching in the south. I wonder what the white people (I am one) when they are in the minority and be persecuted. We are to be the melting pot of the world but lets do it legally and without harm. We now persecute the hispanics (not me) and next it is going to be the muslims. Will we withstand all this hatred? Kim we deserve individual liberty.

Obama, fulfills what it promises, no more families destrullas. deportastes and many of our people. want the economy to rise? Comprehensive damage reform, just as much blah, blah, blah, please take action now …

Pass the DREAM Act as immediate relief for immigrant communities and stop doing mediocre attempts at supporting the DREAM Act i.e petitions, txt mssg and actually put $$ into the DREAM Act campaign and your field people to work on DREAM Act.

I am sorry to the many who are here illegally, but you must realize that breaking the law, even if you did so for the best of reasons, is still an illegal act.
When my son was arrested for domestic abuse, even though it was his girlfriend who hit him, there were consequences. When his brother recieved a motorcycle as spoils of a race and it turned out to be stolen, my son went to jail. There are consequences. You need to think of every action and what the consequences are. We have learned that if it might seem illegal, someone will pay.
That is why I can’t get my mind around allowing people to come here illegally, to break the security of this country and one of the most harshly dealt with laws in other countries.
This is not immigration, if you immigrated here legally, there would no issue and no one would be breaking the law.
Citizens are having a hard time paying for everything that illegal immigrants are using.
The US tried amnesty under Clinton and it just enabled millions more to give it a try.
If you don’t think it’s affecting our economy, you aren’t paying attention.

  • Yvonne De La Paz

Comprehensive immigration reform is very important! The United States has treated the hispanics as if they were criminals they did nothing wrong by passing the borders illegal. They did not kill to get here if anything they risk their own lives to come across. I hear all these comments about the mexican should not be here they need to go back to their own country. The bottom line is the are all differnt kinds of immigrants here in United States why pick on only hispanics. This world has treated them like s**t. Let’s talk about the experinence of the separated families here in US. I am one of them. My husband was deported 2 1/2 years ago. He wanted to become a citizen and do right so that he could stay here and be with me his wife who was sick with problems with kidneys and 2 small children he had previous so we started the visa process. We got the last process of the application and had to meet with immigration and turned that he had to stay in Mexico for 10 years. Pure hell for me made me sick even more. Talk about unhuman are immigraion law and polictican who has no clue what is like to be seperated from the spouse and children let them see. Now is the time to change the law and reunited these mothers and fathers with their children and spouses with thier spouses so that they can live a normal and peaceful life. Anyone who wishes to e-mail me pleaz do so iluvjesus053003@aol.com Rockford, IL.

  • Annais

How about 245i (Life Act) ? Bill Clinton protected the families, President Obama, yuo can do something like that.

  • Kathleen Davy

Once again this week has brought heartache in yet another deportation of a family member. One who has been here nearly his whole life, paid taxes and fed thousands of people from where he worked. I used to think the IRS was huge, without restraints and growing fatter and fatter on fines and $$ gained. That has been superceded by the ugly festering growth of the broken Immigration system/ICE and Homeland Security. It has now become a law unto itself seeking to feed daily on whatever slaves it can grab to work for the Katrina Cleanup in sub-human conditions, recind citizenship of people who have been here nearly all their lives (I am speaking of one of my own son).
The immigration system has become a byword for feeding and absorbing all the $$$ and power it comes across. It has begun to make its own law focusing on a small percentage of people here from poor Hispanic countries. Never mind aboout all the falsly documented people here from countries like Canada. They don’t count you know, because they look and sound like the native looking people from, central and south America. Guess the natives people get it again. Especially considering the territory they are returning to was once their home …predating the european placement here in the USA.
Why is all this happening…its all about the money, honey. Each time people send in a form for the outdated immigration process, the law is changed and the forms are changed and must be sent in again along with another $1,008.00 dollars. This is a money rap. Where is justice, honor and respect in all this?
Wake up America and fix this mess. People living here are part of us all. This secret, law unto itself immigration, homeland security and ICE part of the federal government is growing everymoment into a whole SS style of ’security’ system. I love my Obama….I voted for him and would do so again. I just need him to do what he said he would. Revamp the system without the brownshirt part to it.

  • Crystal

I understand why many people are against people being here illegally but I don’t think they fully understand how the government works in Mexico. As a parent I know that most Americans would do anything for their child. Same with Hispanics, they risk their lives to cross because they’re not getting anywhere with their government so they come here, work hard and then provide for their family. How is that wrong? God didn’t make fences or walls, man did for their own selfish benefit. What is wrong with us, have we lost our morals? Obama, please follow through with what you said. There are hard-working, deserving Hispanics waiting to be a part of this Country. Many of them, there only crime is trying to give themselves a better life. Isn’t that what you said you did, going to run for president to give your children a better life?

  • http://katerwriter.commspeed.net Kate Robinson

While we need secure borders in order to deal with terrorism, we must ensure that people who wish to emigrate to the US are treated with respect, and that families who have been living here and proven themselves to be good citizens receive amnesty. It is essential that the immigration system is overhauled to heal the divisiveness that the issue is creating. When times are bad, people start pointing fingers at the weakest common denominator. In times past, this has been the Irish, the Polish, Chinese, and ad infinitum. We need the skills and contributions of a diverse and united people, no matter their culture or their language.

  • vicente

damned is been this country because the wrong choices of past administration, because of the lack of mercy toward poor and inmigrants. now the whole country is suffering its own malice. start a right path, start to make justice for the poor, the people in need and the foreing. show another countries who americans are, show terrorist that we can be good with them although they pay us back with wrong. when we begin doing this, then this country will start recovering in all ways. we need a refor inmigration NOW. for our future kids.

  • Mary L Aull

All of our ancestors were immigrants; African/Americans (& still others) were brought here against their will. And as La Raza said re. Mexicans; we didn’t cross the Border, the Border crossed us!!

  • Robert B. Elliott

The dehumanization of people is to be expected from Republicans who don’t have enough self-respect to be honest with themselves, let alone others but in a Democratically controlled Congress and White House, there should be major legislation designed to stop the abuses and to help the victims of economic war.

I know many of these people and they are good family people whose greatest “sin” in life is to be poor and without hope in their native country. We will benefit from their contributions if we provide a path to citizenship. We need to help these humble people and protect their families.

  • Gustavo

I think a good idea could be create a webpage where the people can leave bad experiencie and their feeling about the inmigration here, this could be a tool that push the inmigration reform.

  • Jose Fernandes

I love America. I did not come here with my family to became rich, I come here 12 years ago to preach the Gospel. After $15,000.00+ of fees, lawyer fees, I had to leave the US because my Green Card did not come. For years I had worked wright, paid my taxes, and never come back to my home country, to save money for my green card… and three months ago I had to leave because I don’t want to be unlawful in the USA.
I don’t think a big, rich, and FIRST WORLD country like USA should act like the owner of the world, and the owner of the future of some one. They just don’t care what you are doing, and what is your need. That is sad and that will not least for ever.

Our immigration system is broken and need to be fixed.President Obama promised to do Immigration reform in first year of his administration but he did noting in other word he also played with Immigrants emotions and left them helpless and to live in fear and in shadow. In his interview he said that this bill is very controversial and tough to get it done , well Mr President if you could get Health Care bill done( which no body dare to touch in our history),you can get done Immigration Reform too.Its time for action, please Mr President come forward and help human beings in your own country.

  • Camille Atkinson

Well, I have the luxury of having a Founding Father as an ancestor, but how many people do? I have the luxury of being part Native American and can say with jest, the rest of you show me your papers. But it isn’t really funny. This is a nation of Immigrants. A whole nation built of people who came from somewhere else (mostly) and took crap jobs until they could afford to send their kids to good schools–with the exception of slavery. Just because the newest migrating group leaves a bad taste in a politicians mouth, we turn our backs on them and decide to change the rules that allowed your ancestors to come here and change your lives!? That’s garbage. It’s hypocritical and I think it’s wrong.

But then again I live in a neighborhood where the most common languages are Yiddish, Spanish and Chinese. To me it’s not all about English speaking white people of European descent. And to be honest, this recent rash of xenophobia is gross, typical during an economic downturn, totally predictable and sad.

  • Sebat Turk

If those maeningful thing happens that’ll be wonderful.Americans must be like that anyway,i can not think any other. It is totaly freedom, how nice it could be for people leaving in shadow.I beleive it will be real one day, this great nation did this before and they will do it again.America the beautiful,i love AMERICA!

Immigrants need a way to become legal in the United States. We need representatives to focus on solutions to keep people in the country legally so they are able to pay taxes and support the overall economy. Reform means developing a plan for current illegal immigrants to become legal citizens, paying taxes, and having the same rights as all citizens. This will keep families together and benefit all people. There has to be a way where all representatives, regardless of their party affiliation, can agree on reasonable system reform. So let’s get it done!

  • lili

it is time to change the broken immigration law.We know, they know, this is not right, separated family, not giving legal paper work to the undocumented immigrant. They know, government, why they keep doing deportation? this is not right. They must fix the immigration law first.People, we have to speak up, and tell them that what they did is wrong!.I totally support you people going and meeting with the government to discuss this problem and solve it.AMIEN, god bless you

Leave the families along, this is clearly discrimination and is against of the constitution, Mr. President has to remember about his relatives they suffered ill-treatment and equal discrimination which is driving instead of a comprehensive immigration reform

We don’t want any more speeches!!! We want actions!!! The federal gobernment is taking away rights that belong to citizens, children born in this country. These children’s rights have been violated because immigration take away their most important support, their parents. The gobernment is making these children orfans, and they are taking away their rights. These children have a right to have the emotional support, and the love that only parents can give them. It is enough that immigrants children already live in poverty! By taking away their parents they are bringing more devastation to their lives. As a teacher, I have seen how my children suffer and how much they are negatively affected by their parents’ separation. How can they learn anything if they are thinking where their parents might be?

For those of you who say, WHAT PART OF ILLEGAL YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND? I ask the question, WHAT PART OF THE WORLD DID YOUR ANCESTORS COME FROM?

  • http://www.wirthconsulting.org Theodore Wirth

It’s what made this country great and since all of the above have gone down the crapper, we are headed towards third-world status. Our immigration and education systems are broken and Corporations covertly want it to stay that way so that they can keep worker compensation at bay and make a bigger profit for the elite few. Companies beg the government for more H1N visas so that they can bring in college-educated workers from other countries, then ship jobs in the other direction at the same time. ICE raids companies that employ illegal workers and haul the workers away but not the bosses who knowingly hired them. What is wrong with that picture?

The solution is to make it easier for people to legally enter this country and go after those that employ illegal workers with a vengeance–not fortify the borders of our country. Think about it, if no cash jobs were available, there would be less illegal immigration and our tax base would increase, allowing us to invest in improving our infrastructure and educational system.

My husband and I have to deal with separation often. We are trying to live in Mexico while we wait for him to get his green card. We want to do it the right way. However, it is dangerous in Mexico and I’ve had to return to the US in the past for my own safety, leaving my husband behind, and I never know when I may have to do it again. We have been told that his process to get his green card can take 2-8 years! We are trying to do everything the “right way” and by doing that we are risking our safety and being separated for unknown lengths of time — and it will continue that way for those 2-8 years. Something must be done!

  • Scott Holtzclaw

The solution to this is to give people the documents they need to legitamize their status. For some this is a work card, for others a residency card and for still others a path to citizenship. We have an obligation to know who is here and why they have come, but people who have come to work are not criminals and should not be treated as such.

  • John Gay

America is what it is today because of immigrants. We need to welcome people to this country, not harass and hinder them. Since my ancestors came to this country against the will of the local inhabitants (Native Americans in the early 18th century) it is only fair to welcome others who have the courage to make the difficulty journey to join people like me. Of course, if they violate the law they must suffer the appropriate penalties, including being deported if they are not yet American citizens. But simply being here in this country is not ipso facto to break the moral and natural law.

Here is an idea — probably not a new one. I would like to set up citizen study groups all around the country, to include both citizens and non-citizens, so all can learn about the U.S. I know that this might be risky to do, but this way maybe we can galvanize support from the grassroots, persons who want to help those who are here to become citizens as quickly as possible. Possible topics: studying for the citizenship exam, ESL, writing to senators & representatives to urge reform, participating in the true democratic process, etc. etc.

If there were a BIG network of these study groups, people would get to know each other (maybe in church halls, community centers, etc.) and all the volunteers helping with these groups would be promoting respect, engagement, and slow but steady reform. Yes, we need reform ASAP, but maybe we could ALSO begin these groups (if they don’t already exist) to help get the grass roots moving in a concrete, positive direction.

How refreshing to read all of these positive comments! I knew there were many of us out there. I have a suggestion for everyone. Start writing these positive comments to places where negative comments are showing up on a regular basis. Don’t argue, just state your case and be done with it. This needs to happen to influence people who are on the fence and don’t know which stand to take. They need to see that many people are making positive comments everywhere! Thanks, everyone.

You want respect then earn it; come to our country in a legal manner and I will give you respect. Come here illegally and you do not deserve respect.

The posting today is lying bull…. People would not be deported if they were in OUR country legally. And in case you want to tell the truth; the Obama administration if freeing over 1000 Illegal aliens daily and only deporting illegal aliens with a felony criminal record. Get your fact straight before you send out this lying propaganda. Your organization and La Rosa will not be taking over OUR country, the United States anytime soon.

My friend and I have a bet; he says you will post this reply but I don’t think you will post it.

If the President and the body of government that needs to solidify a decision and put it into play once and for all just pass a Reform that will allow the Immigrants that are already here, somekind of Temporary Residency….I don’t know, maybe a 2-3 year term, in which they need to get their stuff “straight”…such as paying taxes and working legally like everyone else….we might not only GAIN some much needed income taxes, but also be able to dissipate the STRAIN on our Medical and Public Assistance Programs that are filled to the gills right now with people suffering from Unemployment and Immigrants just trying to survive a Daily Life, because all other doors and avenues have been closed for them!! These are people that have suffered in their own countries, they come here for a better way of life for themselves and their families, and now find themselves pushed against the wall…they WILL find a way to survive! We need to give them choices and assistance on OUR terms….instead all we are doing is tearing families apart and making some very “ugly” choices in the process! President Obama….DELIVER WHAT YOU PROMISED!!!! IMMIGRATION REFORM!!!

I am loosing hope for Obama. I voted for him because I thought “Yes, We can” literally meant that. He didn’t shout “same old, same old.” We have, however, just that. In fact our country seems imprisoned by the Tea Party. Oddly the participants of the original Tea Party were doing something radical by breaking away from England. The underlying reason might be the same. They were greedy people who did not want to give any money to government…no matter whose government. It really wasn’t about freedom; it was about greed and money. Still is, don’t you think?

Word is these undocumented are stealing jobs, using up government funds for their freeloading profits. My suggestion is that all those undocumented who work and all the people who understand and have compassion for them…call in sick for three days solid. I bet we might see our nation start to quake with the slowdown. and the biggest complainers would be the ones with money who are angry over waiting and picking up their own garbage.

People are entitled to health care, food, and kindness whether they are “legal” or not. (And using the term to describe human beings should be dropped from the language.) Deporting family members because their services are no longer needed is the height of hypocrisy. The idea of no longer allowing those born in this country to be immediately citizens is abhorrent.
Immigration reform should be concerned at all times with the humanity of those immigrating and the embedded memory that we -with the exception of native peoples-are all immigrants.
Fair reasonable laws that cause no harm should be developed and no one should be returned to a country who will harm them.

I’m glad I’m not President of the United States these days! That’s the LAST job I’d want! We do have immigration laws, but they evidently have been poorly enforced. My husband came to this country in 1974 legally on a green card with my parents sponsoring him. After the allotted time, he took a test to become a citizen. Nobody harassed him or complained that he was from a foreign (Asian) country. I have always believed that there is strength in diversity, it’s what has made America unique. Immigration laws must be updated so families will no longer be separated. Eventually, I hope that all people on the planet will catch what we in Hawaii call “the aloha spirit” and embrace each other as fellow HUMAN beings, so that no more boundaries are necessary.

  • Jerry Amos

    1. First and by far foremost, immigrants come because businesses in Arizona and other states like mine will employ illegal immigrants, under the table, no W2, no health, no minimum wage, no unemployment tax, …

No U.S. business can be permitted to hire illegal immigrants! The “border” will always have holes as long as the California, Arizona, … farms and meat packing and whoever continue to hire them.

    Obama, FIX IT!

    2. Businesses need workers, like the farms here in town. They get workers from Jamaica, do provide health care, then at the end of the season they fly back home. Problem, far far too few guest worker permits available from the U.S. Government. The U.S. must have a robust guest worker program including follow up that the workers return at the end of their time.

    3. All this won’t happen. Congress is far too weak. Congress only listens to Tyson, farm businesses, … who really really like cheap illegal labor.

No solution in sight until the U.S. has a strong Federal government.

Deportation Has To Stop Why Separate Families? I Wish Obama Would Look Around And See The Broken Families I Have A Broken Family Due To Immigration And It Hurts Deeply

    Dear Mr. President Barack Obama:
1.- America is being called “The Land of opportunity”. However, it isn’t true. “The others” can’t enjoy that. Yes, it is “The Land of Opportunity but not for everybody! not for “The others”, they are only allowd to see the opportunities passing by because “Immigrants are not allowd to have neither legal residency nor permit to work”.

2.- Many people say that Immigrants don’t learn to speak English.
No one wants to see that “the others”, “the immigrants” work 2 or 3 jobs because they get paid very little for long hours of work. No benefits, no sick days, no pension, no consideration and yes, lot of overtime that is paid at the same “low paid”. Immigrants have become targets for “anybody that wants to benefit from their work” because “Immigrants are not allowd to have papers”.

3.-Immigrants are criticized very hard in all aspects, you name it, how they look, how they talk, how they dress and even what they eat.
People don’t want to see the anguish an immigrant endure every day, the countless times they have been scared of being arrested or deported, the numerous times they are simply walking on the street and shaking of fear of being detained, and all because “Immigrants are not allowed to have papers”.

4.- Mr. President, with all my respect, isn’t it time to walk the talk? if America is the Land of Opportunity why not to give the immigrants the opportunity “to be legal”on first place so they can be allowed to work on their dreams without being persecuted and exploited?

President Obama, every day 1,100 people is being deported. 1,100 fractured families every 24 hours, and millions of broken dreams.
Mr. President, when I voted for you I believed in you! please, please, help these people and pass a “omprehensive Immigration Reform Now”, Nobody said it was going to be easy but I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I hope our President do what he promised, fix this broken immigration system. He promised. This is a immigration Country, the natives are Indians, so we are ALL immigrants!!!!! We broke the Indians laws too, coming without their will! And to those that don’t agree I ask: What part of the World did your ancestors come from?????

First,DON’T divide families.DON’T give in to those who want to repeal the 14th Amendment. Here’s something I just thought of:IF there ARE parents who want just their newborns to be accepted, maybe they could do what other new parents are allowed to do:give them to an official. In this case,a Border Patrol officer,no questions asked. That child, once adopted,is AUTOMATICALLY an American. Also,I’m sorry, but I don’t think deportation of ALL illegals is plausible. If they’re criminals,or have committed crimes here, yes.Otherwise, have them pay taxes,a fine,do whatever, but LET THEM STAY.

  • http://www.americanfamiliesunited.org Bethany Gonzalez

My family has been seperated due to a harsh bar penalty. My husband has been given the 10-year bar and has been outside the country for almost 2 1/2 years. Without reform; without hardship waiver reform my family will either be seperated for 7 1/2 years more or we’ll leave the US and go to Mexico. Our children are being robbed of their dad that Pres. Obama highly states quite frequently that it is important to have them dad’s in children’s lives. Without reform our children and myself as a US citizen of French, German, Norwegian, and Danish blood will have to give up on our country that has given a lot at the price of our soldiers. Without reform to reunite my family and the families of others this nation no longer has the same value. Before the US stood for a land of opportunities, freedom, dreams that came true if really tried for, family values..(what is this)-certainly family has fallen off the face of the nation just like reform. Reform needs to be done now. I know that we vote for Congress, Senate and President. Part of our taxes are used to give them paychecks, so in my eyes they work for us. ALMOST ALL would be fired; because they are only worrying about themselves and forgot about us. They need to start to do their jobs now, pass reform. Who cares if your too tired to pass another law. I work 8-10 hours everyday with insurances, finances, scheduling, interpreting, running errands, being the mind for the dr. and I am mentally stressed everyday; then I go home to our saddened children asking if the reform passed or if Pres. Obama will bring daddy back. Do your jobs; get it done. Get it passed and it will stop creeping up on you. I wish for many things in my life; but the most important is to have my family together and happy once again.

    Support bill (HR4321)
I support legal immigration via Employment & family based visa’s. Backlogs are so severe that it will take a decade or 2 just to get a visa. Have done the right way, someone that has degrees & licenses & has all the qualifications that USCIS imposed, but still waiting for years to have my Priority Date to be current.

Why is there a sign telling President Obama to reform our immigration policies. President Obama does not develop changes to our laws, Congress does. To blame President Obama because the Senate cannot or will not reform immigration is inappropriate. Place the blame where it belongs. True, President Obama may not have lived up to the expectations of his campaign, but I’m sure he didn’t count on the economic collapse of our country or the uncooperative attitude of our elected officials in the Senate.

Is there a bus going Sept 15 from Hampshire county? MA I would go!

This is ripping me up that the fabric of “our” country is being destroyed by incredible racism and incredibly harsh policies, forwarding a police state where people who were once convinced of an american dream are being brutalized and then shipped out like some sort of garbage, dispensable. Disgusting…….

I am white, working class, and ever so grateful for the liberties to live my life as I choose. My fore fathers came to this land just to have that luxury. The were immigrants. All of us are tied to immigrant status in some way or form now, THAT is America. To move in fear and desperation because of a lie that Hispanics in the country don’t work and are ripping off our tax dollars is insane. The back bone of this country is low paid immigrants. Some one needs to smell the coffee instead of listening to all the hair on fire – talking heads on FOX.

I am standing next to you, Adios! Richard Adams

  • Neil Winslow

Many wonderful ideas if you read all the comments above. Thanks to the many heartfelt statements. However, I think this project is making President Obama “the one at fault.” The office of the president isn’t the “department store complaint department.” Obama would love to solve all the problems, but he can’t even get started with all the debt from George W. Bush’s war. I don’t think we have a chance to SAVE AMERICA until we bring the endless griping to a halt.
Don’t forget that it was George W. Bush that went on vacation when Katrina hit New Orleans. It was George W. Bush that wanted to get to “run a war”. It was George W. Bush that personally made $300 million in personal war profits. It was George W. Bush that cheated on fulfilling his military obligations.
The Tea Party Republicans are boasting that they are doing everything they can to cause trouble and make trouble for the government. What happened to the Republican statesmen and leaders. America is at a stalemate. What kind of a country can we have with the so many creating problems and blaming the President for them? Instead of lodging MORE complaints at the President, we need to find ways to get solutions started. Who can set a path past the Republicans barriers before we sink?

  • Daniel

Mr. Obama, we all know you’ve broken a campaign promise by not taking this up in your first year, but I still have hope that you won’t break the promise of America, a land of opportunity for all. Its time to face the neo-fascists down and call out their phony, racist “border security” hype. Lets build a truly comprehensive reform, that addresses not just undocumented status here, but trade policies that create poverty abroad, and makes our immigration laws worthy of respect again. We can no longer tolerate an immigration system that promotes exploitation of workers, separates families and communities, and promotes xenophobia. Help heal the American heart and bring a sense of compassion and justice to the millions who are still waiting in the shadows.

  • Yvette

Reform means improving the immigration system. Decreasing wait times & giving accurate timelines. Keeping families together should be the moral & legal basis in immigration reform. I agree that if you come here illegally you should pay a fine, but not be barred from staying. There are real reasons why people risk the journey. Some come here for safety, better education and better jobs. To come to the USA is not easy. People need to realize how long they wait, how expensive the fees are and if they are coming from a poor background how will they be able to do it. In my travels I have met quite a few people who keep trying to come here legally, paying for fees and only being denied. USA is suppose to take the tired & poor & the hungry, but sometime it feels like all they want is the rich and educated, ones who they think will bring in more money, nevermind just decency and love.
We can’t wait anymoe we need change now! We need to keep families together

-Companies say they need immigrants because locals won’t do the work that immigrants do. Let them then sponsor immigrants to come and do the work for them. I get sick of seeing companies get raided and the only ones to get hit are the workers. The companies get off scott free or receive token fines. They then turn around and start hiring new illegals. All they want is to have a slave labor force that is afraid to complain about conditions and afraid to join unions.

  • Regiasan

1100 broken families, if we multiply the amount of children left behind because of this, we have more and more US future citizens that may hate this country and we don’t want it. Please government think in the future not only of this children but of the nation as a whole. Pass an immigration reform.

Obama is just one more politician. It is time for us to get a Latino in the White House. I know that it might not be soon, but we have to do better in this country. I hope we can create a solid group of Professional Latinos to start a movement for our own benefit. I would love to get more involved in any cause in favor of our people. Any good leads???
    Stop the deportations.

I would love to see for the first time in the united states a president that is willing to make the necessary changes, even if it means cutting his/her connections with powerful people that could help him after his presidential term. It’s about time for everybody to be treated equally, especially for those coming into the united states. The united states government should be proud about how so many people CHOOSE to come to the U.S for refuge and better lives. It means that our stupid, money hungry, government is at least doing something right. I hope we find a solution for all the chaos, and the power to keep it strong.

Our inability to enact immigration reform makes us accessories to murder. When we dont make a viable legal path to immigration available, evil people step in to exploit the desperate folks willing to stake their lives on the american dream. 72 people killed in Mexico. Makes me ill.

There are many people like me, stock for up to 10 years, in the previous 245(i) law waiting at the edge of the shadow to be part of a legitimate economy. Please Mr. President IF IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO CONCRETE A REFORM OF THE IMMIGRATION SYSTEM RIGHT NOW, AT LEAST MOVE AHEAD THE PROCESS OF THOSE THAT ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SANDWICH WITH APPROVAL NOTICES ON HAND FOR MANY YEARS FROM THE IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT AND STILL WAITING ON LIMBO WITH NO LIFE OR EVEN A REAL OPPORTUNITY TO BE PART OF THE SYSTEM. The same way you are moving your resources to deport many of us in order to gain a sense of control from voters, move ahead in the other direction. Let those like me, to openly contribute to this economy by granting those with a certificate of approval on hand to finally be able to have a life AND TO BECOME YOUR BEST SUPPORTERS IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

This is a subject that many people dont know how to feel. I met a wonderful man 8years ago. We have a 6year old and a 5 year old. We have been married only 6 months but living together for 8 years. A year ago my husband was pulled over and did not have a DL. So he was asked about his immigration status and he has been here for almost 10 years, illegally! Now he went to jail and faced deporation. After bail, lawyer fees, $ to file papers. That got us know where. He has to leave on September 20th. We are not sure for how long and what is going to happen to our family. I will soon be a single mother of 2. Not sure yet how our children are going to handle there father that spends every day with them, gone out of there lives. The sad thing is if the law would look at him and see he wants to be here, speek English, pay taxes, take care of his kids he would be an outstanding person to have in our Country. Yet there is no one that would even look at this man, father, husband. I hope that this doesn’t happen to others. I hope for our children there will be reform and soon. Please before you judge open the book.

  • Jerald Nott

All illegal people who came into my country illegally should be deported as soon as possible. All of you should fight for us in Iraq and Afganistan so we can bring our troops home. All of you need to earn the right to be U.S. citizens. None of you should get anything free without earning it legally. Sincerely, Jerald Nott

I know that President Obama did not make any promises in the heat of the moment, he will find a solution but it will take a little bit of time. Imagine, sex is a phisiological need of the body, same way we need to go to do pipi or popo so is sex a requirement, like a bodily function. I wonder if congress was living for 25 years or more, more people will have extramarital affairs. Some children are abused, sexually even by their father or vice versa, a sibling. Lots of people turn to alcohol, drugs to numb the pain because they ask them for green cards which they do not have, or even a social security card which they will not issue one. Some of them can not even read or write their language, could be dialect so if they come here they need to speak their dialect, spanish and english. So may we all pray thkat they come to some solution. Congress should hear stories of how people have to start new families could be just for the green card. I wonder if I marry an older guy not to have sex with him but for companionship. I pray that our beloved president Obama does not have to fall in a situation like that. Imagine him being with our, his beloved Michelle, beloved children Sasha and Malia. If immigrants had jobs and good education crime would not be so high. I do not have anything negative to say about America they can not be naive, people hkere should not be peeved thinking that we are taking away their jobs. There is plenty for everybody. We pray for an alien free state. I will send up prayers because 25 years of my life has been spent here and if I have to wait a fee years more then I know I can visit a little bit more. I have been have not visited my homeland, Honduras in 49 years. In the meantime that I pray to have my papers fixed, I will visit all over the Beautiful USA. Amor & Happiness

  • Dreamer

Pass the DREAM Act!!! It’s the first step toward a Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

  • Jorge Arenas

While in college I had the opportunity to run a Migrant Camp. I witnessed how “Americans” would sleep in and not go to work while the migrants were up before daylight ready for work. The concept that immigrants take away jobs is bogus. Many U.S. top companies want qualified foreign workers because they cannot find them in the U. S.
Mass hysteria would have the uninformed believe that foreigners are using up health and welfare benefits, what they don’t highlight is the work performed by those same immigrants. It’s gotten so bad that some would deny citizenship to those born on U. S. soil, that’s unconstitutional.
PLEASE invoke the power of the presidency to put an end to this nightmare. As a world leader, please lead Congress to pass the correct immigration reform so that all interests are protected. By allowing current immigrants to work and pay taxes, they begin to assimilate and prepare themselves to become U. S. citizens.

  • The Mentalist

So many people have been living for over 20 years and have no way to even get on some kind of “path”, let alone legalize with instant permanent status. Also, family unions may be important, but so are those who are educated and like to be a part of the legal fabric without having to provide family sponsorship that they do not have.

Therefore, the least that can be done is to give some “path” to long time residents and/or with education or other “fit” criteria.

  • SILVIA ARTEAGA

YESSSSS! WE NEED THE REFORM MIGRATORI NOWWW

  • Bob

I agree that we need reform, but I think that we cannot just give permission to stay for everyone now here. I think that a specific amount of time & circumstances to stay in the US must be established. IE: anyone illegally (please let’s not argue about words, you know what I mean)in the US less than five years should be required to leave. Parents of US born children should be allowed to stay…yea I know anchor babies…but until & if the Constitution is changed, which I oppose, they are Americans. Allow me to ask how many of you voted in the recent elections? If not and you are entitled to, YOU ARE APART OF THE TEA PARTY by default. If you only talk but are too lazy to get out and vote…even from the comfort of your own home…shut-up you have nothing to say.

  • Pamela

I think our entire American government system is based on oppression and inappropriate violence and should be thrown out. Our industrial civilization is what is killing us, and I have no true hope that government can really do anything positive for humanity. But I still think that comprehensive immigration reform is something that must happen if this way of life is going to persist in our country. Our current immigration legislation is truly abusive and needs to be changed. This is about human lives we are talking about. We all suffer from the lifestyle impressed upon us, and in a search for liberation, each people group must be involved. We are all connected.

  • Tani Guevara

I understand that coming here illegally is breaking the law, and I do believe that there should be some sort of “punishment”, but to BREAK & SEPARATE families is not the kind of punishment we need! We need an immigration reform now that stops putting boundaries between us and stops hurting what is most important the families. I believe that a fair immigration reform that would punish all those that here illegally by having them pay fines would not only help us in staying together but also boost this failing economy. Why must we continue to hate and hurt our families when it can be more simple. I agree with enforcing more border patrol but only for the safety of those crossing it and also to STOP the drugs from crossing into our land… This is our America, it is made up different cultures backgrounds and people. Let’s re-joyce and appreciatte how beautiful it is! Let’s brings our families together and stop pulling them apart. ALso this idea that an illegal immigrant can take the job of a citizen is absurd. As some have already mentioned above while some of the citizens are still comfortably in bed at 5am the immigrants are standing by the streets next to the Home Depots. They are not taking any jobs that the citizen would want and if they want it then why don’t we see them out there too???? Plus you need PAPERS to get jobs!!!!!! Love, Peace anf Happiness to all!!!!

  • Randolph

I am in support for immigration reform that will make it possible for some who are already in the country illegally the opportunity to come foward and ajust their status, not legal residency nor amnesty but by reaching certain mandatory conditions that must be met. Entering this country without inspection is illegal doing so has broken the law. the only entitlement here is detention and deportation.
Lets face it, living here illigally for 20 years or what have you is not an entitlement to legal status, it takes diligent work to convince the opponent that we are worthy of our demands, even with unbecoming behaviour from elements within the ranks that seems to cloud the efforts, there must be a manifestion of a higher moral standards surpassig the detractors, and a clear distinction between the apple and the grapes when it setforth on the table.

  • WA

Dear President Obama, I truly hope that you have the courage to sign either an Executive Order or Presidential Pardon to all Mexican nationals. They are being forced to come to the USA in order to avoid the killings by the Drug Cartels. It’s a matter of life or death for them.
We also need something done to protect all illegals here that have USA or resident alien immediate family. THERE IS NO REASON TO SEPARATE A FAMILY MEMBER especially when that person is taking care of their American citizen or permanent resident family members. Our economy has enough problems without adding more people that no longer have a means of support.
PLEASE MR PRESIDENT WE ARE ASKING YOU TO TAKE THE HIGH ROAD AND NOT TO BE SWAYED BY THOSE THAT ARE RADICAL EXTREMISTS.
Thank you in advance. I look forward to your solution as I know from your own words when you say you will do something you Do It. Again thank you.

obama can you stay without your family if seprated feel how you like it
same thing happen with immigrants who come to this country feeling this is united state and every body have same right legal or illegal does not mean
but from last 20 year differant adminstration try to solve the issu and you win on this issu too but now you forget your promise or issu . keep your promise live man . if you care about your seats your seats must be loss if you care about your peoples or promise your seat must be more this God law

  • A L Bkr

The “pathway to citizenship” concept/plan makes a mockery of American law and is a slap in the face of American citizens and Legal Migrants. There is no way we can justify giving Amnesty or any form of the pathway to citizenship to people who have come into our country illegally. We are a nation of laws and we expect everyone to obey our laws. Changing laws to favor criminals is far from appropriate. People illegally entering our country become criminals the minute they cross into our country and they compound that crime every day they remain here illegally. U.S. citizens committing that many crimes are considered habitual criminals and are jailed or imprisoned for it. Special interest groups supporting amnesty are trying to change our laws to allow illegal aliens to gain citizenship. WHY – millions of immigrants have come to our country legally and helped make our nation the great nation it has been. Why should we allow criminals to violate our laws and be allowed to remain unpunished in our country? Complaining about breaking up families with deportation is a mute argument. When American citizens commit crimes they go to jail or prison leaving behind their families – why should we do anything differently with illegal aliens. Chances are the families of the illegal’s are illegal also and if they are not they have the choice of remaining in the U.S. or going with the illegal being deported; that is not our problem. We did not violate the law, we did not encourage the illegal to violate the law; do the crime pay the price!
NO AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS – NO “PATHWAY TO CTIZENSHIP” FOR ILLEGALS!

  • MAYRA

Hi well I am a California elementary school teacher. Born and raised in California. I married an undocumented immigrant 2 years ago. He got deported when I was 8 months pregnant. He missed the birth of our daughter. The people who are doing this seems like they do not have any values, it also seems like they do not know what HOME and FAMILY really mean. They do not know how hard and horrible it is to have your family separated. I who studied a lot of child development know the IMPACT it has on a child when they do not have both parents together. The impact is on everything, social development, cognitive, etc.

  • Sobeida Martinez

WE NEED THE IMMIGRATION REFORM NOW!!!
When the president Obama needed our hispanic’s votes on 2008 we gave them to him, because we trusted him and believed HE COULD MAKE THE DIFFERENCE and take out the illegal people from the shadow, JUST LIKE HE PROMISSED. After 2 years of administration I have a question “WHAT IS HE DOING FOR OUR PEOPLE???? NOTHING!!! The only thing those people want is to live in a free country where their rigths are respected. Not all the illegals are criminals, there are so many good people that are facing deportation now, like my best friend, she lived in this country for 10 years, working since the first day she was allow to do it until the day she was detenied, paying taxes and working hard. People like her is an asset for this country and deserve to stay. SO PLEASE Mr President is time to GIVE WHAT YOU PROMISED AT THAT TIME, TAKE ACTION NO MORE EXCUSES, this is a big country and deserve big leaders. No one said it was going to be easy but you said “YES WE CAN” PLEASE remember that and DO SOMETHING NOW!!!!

    We need immigration reform now.

  • Nicole Kovacs

Why are you biting the hand that feeds you? You are playing into the right wings racist agenda .We finally have a president and administration that has said over and over again that they want comprehensive immigration reform passed but that it cannot happen without Republican support.Yet here you go blaming Obama, rather than targeting all these Republicans that are spreading anti-hispanic rhetoric and passing racist laws (against which Obama filed a Federal lawsuit). We as Hispanics need to be smart and go after the right people,we need to show the Republicans that the latino vote counts! We should be galvanized for the November elections and come out stongly to support the Democrats! The alternative is really scary!!!

  • manny

I think the president should come up with the immigration reform that he promised .The most disappointing thing is that he is not up to his promises.
Separation is not a easy thing for a family.I pray to god that some kind of reform comes up that will save millions of families from being separation.
It will be like a dream coming true if something good happens.
Hope that the president understands the feelings of millions of families who go through depression.

BECAUSE MY CHILDREN ALSO WILL BE WITH OUT THERE PARENTS .WE NEED TO STAY UNITED

  • Phil

To all of you who think it’s so unfair that your families are torn apart when the law is enforced: If you want to blame someone for the pain your families are going through, look in the mirror.

Did you know the rules before you came here, married here, had children here? Of course you did. If you are a responsible and mature adult, you have to accept responsibility for the mess you make of your own life.

The consequences for your life choices are not my responsibility, but they do affect me.

I married a woman from South America. I’ve been through the process. When our daughter was to be born, we couldn’t get a visa for our mother to enter the U.S. The reason? Too many middle-class folks from her country coming here, and overstaying their visas.

Illegal immigration cost my family the experience of my mother-in-law being here for the birth of her first and only grandchild.

I would love to see this problem fixed, so others in my position don’t have the same experience.

If you really want to fix this, stop focusing on Obama, and look at Congress. The Republicans have been completely obstructionist against Obama, and their Democratic counterparts. You know Obama wants to fix the immigration problem, but with the Republicans holding the country hostage, it can’t be done.

Comprehensive immigration reform is good for this country. The status quo is good for the Republican party’s supporters in the business community – who want to destroy the unions and depress this country’s wages, and standard of living among the working class.

Republican policy embraces anything that depresses working-class wages, such as competition with shadow market labor. Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Dick Armey, and other Republican leaders do not want the vast majority of illegal aliens to be able to adjust their status.

So, if you are serious about this issue, you’ll work to rid yourselves of the obstructionists in Congress. Obama can’t change the law – that’s up to congress.

In the meantime, how many of those daily deportations are really single men, or married men whose families are not living in the U.S.? How many are prison releases?

To say that all deportations tear families apart is a dishonest statement, to manipulate your emotions.

Time to attain some maturity in this discussion.

  • Barbara

We need immigration reform now. Alot of people are hurting.
They just want a better life. They deserve to be able to have that.

  • Mother

I am sorry that this has come to scare tactics to make peaople support immigration reform. Facts are bent on both sides of the issue. I feel if you are in this country illegally then yes deportation is right because you have willingly came here against United States laws. If this was done in other country then that country would be hailed as protecting itself, its citizens, and economy, But because this is done in the United states we are subjegated by those that claim they are being persecuted, children separted from parents, and that it is not right and stay here for those reasons that have resorted to making it a human rights issue. No it is not. Sorry you broke our laws and thus need to be sent back to country of origin and then it would be almost impossible to gain entrance legally because of past illegal entrance. You bring your minor children here illegally then no school for them unless you want to pay for said education that is being stolen from a child here legally. No medical care unless cash up front, no social services, ect. If stint in custody until deportation takes effect that should be worked for to repay for those said services.

If those comming to the US legally I say hell ya your welcome. I have no problem with that at all. Fot those that are claiming amnesty state it a border agent, immigration worker, or other agency officials to then decide if amnesty is granted or not. For those individuals they get a free pass until case is decided. If sent back to country of origin, i will pay the cost of return, but if that said person then tries again to come to US then they are subjecated to the same rules as any other illegal person.

  • John D. Nickrosz

Mr. President, we are a country of immigrants. Many of the immigrans who are awaiting a legalization program have been here for years contributing to our economy, doing jobs most people refuse to do. It’s time we do something for them.

  • Maria Gonzalez

Relief means knowing we chose the right person to be our president. A person that will keep there promises. We have been patient, but enough is enough, instead of going forward its seem like we are going backwards.

Respect is showing us that our Hispanic vote counts. We put our trust in Obama now he has to show us he wants to work for our country to make it a better place. Respect our people that come to work hard in this country and give the a chance to be here legally. At the same time respect our country by deporting only those who do the real damage to our country, drug dealers and convicts. Get the facts straight and do not take every single illegal immigrant in this country to be a drug dealer or convicted felon. Do the right thing because its right and not the wrong thing out of anger do not be that ignorant.

Reform, we need it. Immigration Reform for those who have work for it. Respect for those who have work for it. Relief for those who will keep working for it. The time is now. If we need to go back to the streets to demand these thing for our family members who love this country as much as we do and will respect it as well we will.

  • Miguel

We as humans have the right to be treated with respect;however, without an immigration reform evil people will continue to exploit the immigrants. Migrant workers often work longer hours and for lower salaries, and while that is controversial, sometimes exploitive; we need a immigration reform. When people are made to feel welcome in a host society, they can contribute to the diversity of that society, which can help with tolerance and understanding. For the host country’s economy, immigrants offer an increased talent pool when they are given the opportunities of the country.

  • Jessy

Yes, I am for immigration reform. My husband was deported over a year ago, I am a US citizen and it is just not fair or right to take him away from us, we have a 6yr old daughter that asks about him all the time.Right after he left I found out I was pregnant with our 2nd daughter, I have had to do everything myself and now have a 4 month old baby that does not even know her dad, its a very terrible thing to do to people. He is a hard worker and it is just a cruel cruel thing to do to our family just because he is from Mexico. I am all for it and hope something is done soon.

  • nelson

obama we need you to make a diference in our life please txs

  • Kimberly

It’s time to stop begging with our tails between our legs for someone to throw us a bone, some small shred of respect. Marches, protests, demonstrations, petitions are not enough! No one in Washington cares beyond how many votes they can win by playing the immigration game in front of voters. It is time to go past the authority of the US government which has so far been impotent in doing anything, take our case to the UN and Amnesty International. What is happening here in the country I was born in is no different from what they did to the slaves, the japanese, the italians, the irish, the native americans, and so on and so on.

  • Anayeli

I have been here all my life and seen how families get separated, this has got to stop Obama WE NEED A REFORM NOW.

  • Anayeli

I have been here my whole life and I think its time for a change, time for Respect and equality without all the racism. Obama act now and approve the REFORM, Stop seperating families.

We came, because we believe in the principles of this wonderful Country, we thought that with our hard work and loyalty we would contribute to the FREEDOM, THAT IS WHY OUR SONS FIGHT IN THE WAR ( EVEN BEING ILLEGALS) but after years and years of be honorable, pay taxes and follow the instruction to became a good citizen, we found in the authorities that our effort has no value at all, that we are not even a HUMAN BEEN and that we must to face mistreat, prison, deportation and the worst: THE SEPARATION OF OUR FAMILIES…..
    WE NEED A REAL REFORM….
WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THE POPULATION OF THE USA HAS THEIR ORIGIN AS A IMMIGRANT….AND AFTER THEY GOT THEIR CITIZENSHIP THEY FORGOT THAT ONE DAY THEY WERE IMMIGRANTS ……
DO WE HAVE TO BE SLAVES AS THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN WERE FOR YEARS ( 1959 THE LAST YEAR THAT ANY BODY COULD BY A HUNTING HUMAN BEEN LICENSE IN A GROCERY STORE WITHOUT TO QUESTIONS!!!!….), WHERE ARE THE HUMAN RIGHTS THAT THIS COUNTRY SPONSOR!!!!!!! THANK’S! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

  • nolcin m.

an immigration reform would be the answer to all of my and undocumented people problems i pay my taxes the whole year like any resident,i respect the law of the us i love us,and then why the congress does not want to give me an apportunity to live happy, safe, and be respected like enyone,i think the government has not been fair and i am saying i respect the law because i want to get my driver license but [[why can i not get it?cause i don,t have an id and am not driving without license that means i respect us law but i still hope some day sun will shine for us,,,GOD BLESS AMERICA

Let’s push for H.R. 4321: CIR ASAP Act of 2009
Let’s do it as a group, let’s push for pathway for citizenship, this is also for Family & employment category & Dream act. Our fight is not only for one goal, it should be as a whole.

  • Sonia Sagastume

RESPECT, RELIEF, AND REFORM are three words that should be used together in multiple sentences. Personally, I think that America does not have respect for everyone in this country. It’s unbelievable! What happened to the word “united” in united states? doesn’t that mean that the states should be united? That everyone should stop the hate and unite once and for all? When is the dream country going to really become the dream country for those people that come in search for a better life? So they can provide more for their family, especially their children?? When I think of the word RESPECT, I think of it being something that you receive when you do and treat someone good. What happened to respect others the way you want to be respected? Some people don’t give a crap anymore, where’s the respect? You don’t see Americans getting deported from other countries! Heck, they have more opportunities than most other type of people! Now, RELIEF to me means its something that you feel when you don’t have to hide from the police every single day, when you can walk in America without fear of getting caught by the immigration. Relief is what you feel after you are out of a bad situation, after you hurt yourself, after you are out of your debts, that’s what these immigrants should feel! They will never find out what relief really feels like because of these immigration laws. OBAMA, what happened to your promises? These people that live in fear everyday, supported YOU, so that YOU could make a change in THEIR LIVES! But so far, you have done nothing but cause more fear and destruction in those people’s lives! You’ve left us all in disappointment. We thought that you would be the person that would make an end to all of this madness, but all you did was support them even more! I can’t believe you, everyone trusted you! When will the hate against our type of people end? This is ridiculous! Your whole theme was CHANGE but I haven’t seen any AT ALL!!!! I feel outrage and disappointed in your actions! Finally, the word REFORM is a word that will NEVER BE USED BY OBAMA! You said that you would bring reform to us, but still after seeing many people get deported and separated from their families, I have not seen any reform at all. I just hope and pray that you might have some type of guilt within you to stop all of this, and bring back all of those people that got deported because after all, these people are the people that are hard workers, they may work from 5 in the morning until 12 at night or 1 or 2 in the morning, without resting enough, this is unfair and cruel. I can’t imagine you working that much! I hope and wish that these people get better jobs, better paid, and better treated, because after all, they feel like crap when you deport them! Sincereley, I am reallllly disappointed in you!

  • Antigone1000

Why do you all blame the US for these broken families?? If a Mexican illegal gets deported, his/her American partner can go to Mexico with him/her, along with all their kids, thereby keeping the family intact. Why should America have to accomodate the lawbreakers?

  • Sonia Sagastume

well because its simple, America does break families apart, people come here in search for a better life! what else would they come here for????? That doesn’t make any sense antigone1000!!!!!

  • CollegeStudent

This is so sad. America is “Supposed” to be such a powerful and strong country, yet we can take care of the problems we have here in our land. How are we supposed to stand up to other nations when we cant fix the problems here?? Does the White House not see that? Obama and all the people that are running for office only say what we at the time want to hear. Those people really dont care about no one but them selves. It doesnt matter what color you are. We need a solution for this problem, and so many more.

  • Walt J.

First off Mexicans aren’t the only ones affected by deportation. Companies rather hire immigrants to work for them not because locals don’t want to do the work. They are able to pay them a much lower salary to work than locals.

  • http://martha_torres_lupe@yahoo.com Martha

Obama, We need an immigration reform now! The congress needs to do something to make this country better both as a nation and economically. You have the power to convince them and be persistent! Please think about how separating families are on the american children and how it will affect the country in the future. Mexico is becoming more and more dangerous to live in and we are just trying to give to this country and our families and we are not trying to take anything away from anyone. YES, YOU CAN! It is time for a reform now!

  • http://reformimmigrationforamerica.org Martha

The DREAM ACT IS THE START! It’s time NOW! You have the power to convince the congress Mr. President! YOU CAN DO IT!

  • Mrs Castellanos

WE NEED TO PUT AN END TO THIS HORRIBLE WAY IF TREATING US ALL AS IMMIGRANT, ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE NEVER LIVED HUNGER AND POVERTY CAN’T UNDERSTAND WHY SO MANY PEOPLE TRAVEL RISKING THEIR LIVES TO COME TO THE USA TO GIVE THEIR LOVES ONES A BETTER FUTURE.
IF YOU LOOK AT THE STATISTICS ONLY US IMMIGRANT LEGAL OR NOT ARE THE ONES THAT REALLY MOVES THIS COUNTRY SPECIALLY IN THE FARM FIELD, CONSTRUCTION, AND HARD REALLY HARD WORKING POSITIONS BECAUSE WE DO COME TO THIS COUNTRY TO SUPPORT IT AND GIVE OUR HEART AND SOUL, AND AS PAY WE GET LOWER WAGES, AND WE ARE VIOLATED OUR HUMAN RIGHTS AND WE STILL STAY HERE FOR A REASON: OUR FAMILY, OUR CHILDREN WHO ARE THE FUTURE OF THIS COUNTRY TOO.
SO LETS DO IT NOW ONCE AND FOR ALL DO SUPPORT THE IMMIGRATION REFORM.
AFTER ALL WE ARE ALL ONE IN THE LORD.

it has been 8 years of marriage and alot of hard work has been done during this time, company has been built two children have been raised in sent to collage. and both children earned grants and scholarships to attend 4 years. Have brought properties paid in full with rental profit. Go to church, donated a playset for children at our small church. Been in this country since I was 17 1years old got married at 22. My children are step children and have seizures 15-20 a day. My wife is also sick and I wake up every morning to assist her cooking for her, dress her, bathing her, keeping up with her meds. She is a US Citizen.Which has not been able to get SSI, disablity benefits after she has worked for 20 years. I can not continue living in fear that I will be deported and what about my wife my children
still call me to send them money and things that come up.
To be deported is not the worst that can happen it just returning where i came from my wife’s health is not strong enough to leave with me. I have paid taxes all the time been here. 13 years with seizures with family how can i leave. The reform is needed for people like me please Mr.Obama, we voted for you because you siad you would help us. My church prays for you every sunday to give the knowledge and leadership to do what needs to done to have the reform put in action. Their is many of us

  • Sandra Heisey

Perhaps we should remove the “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearing to breathe free” from our beloved Statue of Liberty! Yes, it’s unfair for illegals to “game” the system, but shouldn’t they have a path to citizenship? If they’re working in our country and paying taxes, they should have a chance to become American citizens. I’m not saying ahead of others, but how about at the back of the line, which is fair, and then we would have not only more citizens, but more working Americans! We need to build up our Middle Class, because it’s almost non-existent. Also, employers who hire illegal immigrants should be fined, and make it a fine that HURTS, not just slaps them on the wrist! This isn’t Corporate America; it’s the United States of America!

  • Rosa Ortega

The plight of the Immigrants seem not to face many Americans. Opportunistic Politicians and coward Politicians join forces to distract the populace from real issues with fallacious problems, the simplification of a complex issue also serves the intolerant, the ignorant and the lower expressions of racism. It is interesting to note “Mexican” as if it is “illegal.” Most undocumented immigrants do so in desperation and fear. The slogans “Make the line” and “Orderly Immigration” doesn’t apply since the Consular Offices and the Immigration Department are in disarray do not serve their purpose and arbitrarily deny entry on ridiculous grounds taking the applicants money even though they already have “guidelines” to deny visas. Even under humanitarian grounds and under asylum issues applicants are rejected arbitrarily and without careful examination of their cases, the only alternative to cross the border and live a oppressive life that is compounded by a Law System that breeds corruption and criminality against this poor people. The undocumented immigrants tend to work harder and under conditions that contradict the soul of our Nation, they are taxed without representation and abused almost by all. In Analogy it is like a luxury ship denying boarding to survivors of a sinking ship. Our country was build and continues to build on the shoulders of Immigrants and the issue is not new, since the Authorities changed the original rules they aggravated the issue. It is time to stop abuse and to go back to a human approach to solve the undocumented people’s plight.

Good and lasting immigration reform with Mexico is bilateral, not unilateral. The two countries have to work this out together.

Let’s put a Statue of Liberty at the border, and a sign-in book. If someone wishes to live and work here, give them the paperwork & let them come in. Howdy, Neighbor! PEACE, Linda

We the PEOPLE need these three human qualities as much as we NEED authentic health care. Please do not hold your breath waiting for either.
We live in a fascist country Corporations rule! They do NOT want us to have healthy bodies, minds, lives or a functional, humane immigration policy why? because none of this will fill the greedy power mongers coffers with more gold.
Bob Dylan said it….”If ya ain’t got nothin’ ya got nothin’ to loose”
This time we need to REVOLT against the corporate fascist takeover of what used to be our government.I am totally SICK of enduring and suffering while the greedy get MORE and MORE. Come on people it’s not as if we were completely powerless YET!

Wow. Talk about hypocrisy. One of the most embarrassing chapters of American history is that of the Native American Genocide. American Indians, whom were stripped from their lands and torn from their families, are undoubtedly the only people that have a right to condemn illegal immigration AKA the White Man. Now after invading a country that rightfully belonged to others, you have the audacity to claim that illegal immigration is wrong. Open your eyes and do not be ignorant. The vast majority of “Americans” have ancestors from England, Ireland, Spain, France, etc. everywhere but North America. What exactly makes you legal and others illegal? And what is America exactly? Who are Americans? Mexico is part of North America, are the Mexican residents therefore not American? Since when did this concept become property of the United States? To all the people who claim that illegal immigrants deserve to be deported and that they have only entered this country in order to attain free things, if that were the case we would have been long gone. Obviously we are not expecting anything for free, instead we expect and receive hostility and hate from people that do not have tolerance for another race. I know what the problem here is: FEAR. Fear of something new, of something that has the potential to be great. I do not wish the pain of the hard working immigrant on any of you, may God open your eyes.

We should be working towards a day when BORDER WALLS COME DOWN, not built higher!
Americans should get OUT of the Middle-East and start addressing its own drug addictions
which are fueling Mexican Drug Criminals power. The USA SHOULD put MAJOR resources into becoming a better neighbor to Mexico and Latin America, so that south of the border the living standards are raised and that poverty itself becomes the target, not human beings!
The border will be come LESS and LESS of an issue, as USA and Mexico work closer together.
I’ve worked with Mexican Migrant workers, awed by the hard work, skill, professionalism and generosity
as lunches were shared freely with me…a total stranger.
Its time for America to RETURN THE FAVOR and honor those who have contributed so much to our country. My Native ancestors saw no border line in the sand. Migration has taken place for thousands of years, and if there is a sin, its the sin of splitting up good families , of those whom have made this upper continent their home.

The process for all migrants into the United States needs to be fair and non biased to everyone that applies. Criminals, are not welcomed , but Mexican National fathers and mothers that want to make a better life for his or her child(ren) should not have to walk thru a dangerous, god-for-saken desert, with no guarantee of survival from the violence of the drug lords or the violence of the American people that are mislead and mis-understand of the ply these wonderful people go thru for a chance at a basic life. Most Americans have no clue the torment and demeaning treatment by our own law enforcement. Ask one, two or more Mexican migrants that will share this or her story!!

Come down from your ivory towers, the elitists that sit on the seats in our government who have NO CLUE !! what it is like to want basic human needs, food water, safety…

Figure it out, fast!!! They all have the right to basic human rights and the chance to have them..

    President Obama,
In your own family history generations of your relatives were held in captivity, denied human rights, and suffered because of unjust laws. I am asking you to think about the plight of undocumented immigrants in our country. They fled their homes because of injustice and discrimination in their native lands and came to America looking for a better life. They entered illegally because no door opened for them. Please stop arresting and deporting these people. Find a way for them to become citizens, gain higher education, and become legal contributors to our country. The Almighty God of all asks us to care for our brothers and sisters who suffer. You will be blessed in any thing you can do to relieve their suffering.

The more band-aids we put on the problem (such as the $600 million for increased border surveilance) the worse we are making it. Migrants will continue to come to America as long as there is opportunity for them here, whether they are able to legally or not. It is either stay and die for many, or risk it and hopefully live. Anyone of we, American citizens, in their shoes would do the same. It’s hard to put ourselves in those shoes, but if we are able to, mentally for one moment, each one of us would see. We must make it undesirable to be undocumented in this country, meaning an increase in visas alotted each year and policies that are actually comparable to the needs of our labor market. If so, migrants would not WANT to come here “illegally”, and therefore as soon as the jobs were fulfilled, no more migrants would be coming here, for if there isn’t a job for them in America, why would they uproot their lives and family roots to come here? If this happens, the situation south of the border will improve, and while it takes an economist (which I am not) to truly evaluate how much improvement, a level playing field is basically what we need. The roots of migration to America from MX, CT Amer and S Amer reside in inefficiencies in each of these countries’ governments, but they also (and to what extent it is difficult to say, but it is certainly a significant one) reside in American policies and participation. The trade agreements, our inefficiencies to uphold our laws, the SSA’s hoarding of tax $ from social security accounts that don’t quite match up, the list goes on. Obama Administration, please uphold your promise and work to solve this detrimental issue, you have many supporters who are depending on you.

  • Lynn Biddle

The United States Constitution does not limit its protections to citizens. The majority of the rights outlined therein are held by “people.” The Supreme Court must recognize this, if not, it is not genuinely supporting our Constitution.

Illegal immigrants must have the protections of the right to confront witnesses against them, to a jury trial, and to legal representation, as well as others included in our Constitution.

We are all immigrants or the descendants of immigrants.

  • Melissa

Relief, Respect, and Reform means justice for today’s immigrants, since we live in a nation composed entirely of immigrants. This also means policy change is necessary to meet the needs of this ever-growing immigrant population. We, the United States, to an extent brought this issue upon ourselves when we issued NAFTA… it is ultimately us who pushed the waves of more recent immigrants here, so we have the responsibility to respectfully deal with this issue in a way that keeps families together and validates the dignity and worth of each person, regardless of their legal status here in the States. Immigrants also need policy changes that rid them of the anxiety that comes with the possibility of deportation at any moment. For the sake of families and their well-being, relief, respect, and immigration reform are absolutely necessary – not tomorrow, but today, because by the end of today, another 1100 will be deported, and we will be too late for them.

We need a reform NOW so no more people will have to go through this and maybe one day by sons father will be able to come back in this country legally.

Lock – up tight the borders. Drive vibrating earth movers to crush the tunnels and send the illegal’s back. Let them do it the legal way with the paperwork and then wait for it to be processed. Stop the busses at the border currently hauling people to Albuquerque and Denver.

Obama you need to fix our immigration system. What do you do all day? Families are torn apart everyday. You need to think of it as if your family had lost you. How would they feel? Where would they be without you? Without my husband I work all the time just to feed and put a roof over our head. My kid’s never see him nor me I’m gone all the time. MY values are that ALL people independent of race, language, sexual orientation, sex, age, political affiliation, religion, philosophy, handicap, medical history, etc. have the right to be respected. They have the right to be protected from injustice. And when the laws and behavior of my country are unjust, I am ashamed. I have and will vote for change.

President Obama, my father was a immigrant from Ireland and became a member of the Penna. House of Represenatives for 2 terms. When he came here he did not have a 7th grade education and no family to help him. The fields he worked were laying track for the Penna Railroad. He worked hard at jobs Americans didn’t want to do and sent home money every month to Ireland. Sounds to me like the same story the folks in Arizona have today. And who are you or the people in Arizonia to say that they can’t come here and help improve America as my Dad did? If we are truely human beings then we help each other. Dear President Obama,

My American dream was shattered by my federal government when my husband was detained and deported. I am a born citizen of the U.S. I met and married a man from Portugal. We had a 2 year old son, and I was pregnant with our second son at the end of 2007. We had applied for permanent residency – and filed all the appropriate documents – and paid the fees. We were called for our interview, and happily showed up – expecting good news. Instead, my husband was taken from the office – and put into a jail. My 2 year old son cried miserably for his father “Da-da!!!” Very pregnant, I waddled away with a kicking and screaming toddler, while the US government shattered my dreams. I had just quit my job at Cornell University to stay home with the children – since we were sure that my husband would be able to stay and continue to work. Unfortunately, after he sat in a jail for 2 months (with NO criminal history whatsoever.) My husband finally boarded a plane to his home country. I gave birth to our second son all by myself, and for the first time in my life- I needed to apply for welfare to support us. The government wasted money sending my husband home. And, robbed my children of their family unit. This country is a disgrace to humanity. We are upstanding people, with a good reputation in our community – and without any consideration for our children – the government just bent me over and basically screwed me. Thanks a lot for that. I am college educated, hard working, and peace loving. I used to cry when I heard the song”Proud to be an American”…now I laugh at it. Proud of what, exactly? Fix the broken immigration system…fix it today.

We have been disgraced, as a nation, by the “culture of hate” that has been developed and encouraged by certain factions. The US cannot afford to turn away the skills, talents and fresh perspectives of immigrants. In recent decades, the US has fallen far behind the modern nations in every area from infant mortality to education, quality of life to life expectancy. It’s in the best interests of America to work toward getting past our era of fear and hate, and actually embracing the traditional American values of freedom and human decency, once again becoming the leading defender of fundamental human rights.

Hunting people down and shipping them out of the country like cattle disgraces the United States. What does this country really stand for?

It has been 10 years that I first came to this country and felt in love with it. I was 17 years old , and back then things were much easear.I left family and started my life here, I married had 2 beautiful girls ,paid all my taxes, made wonderful friends , invested 10 years of earnings into a home that is not worth 1/3 of what we paid for, and we did all that because this is the place where we love, where we want to live and raise our children. Now we can’t drive we constantly live in fear of going back to our country with two children, no job and money and where is very dengereous for the kids.
Please Obama help us we are good people and we love and respect this country but what the people are doing to us isn’t right. Please please help us ,all of us that have no criminal records, are good to society and have been here in the shadows for i long time. We are also people of god, we know we did wrong by staying here but we are paying a very big price so for all of you that oppose a wish that God may touch you heart today.
    Thanks for reading my story.

The previous comments are similair to those I hear in my community. Those brought here as children who can’t get driver’s licenses or go to college. If they are deported, it would be to a counry foreign to them and without family support. They have low paying jobs, and all the thousands of dollars of fees keep some who have married American citizens with low paying jobs from filing for status adjustment. I don’t understand why the fees have been raised so much since many work at low paying jobs. Then.. Those who came when they were years ago as young people who ended up in relationships and having families. The spouse and the children are legal, but the family income is too low to sponsor the illegal spouse. The illegal spouse has no papers to work to raise the family income level and can’t find another sponsor who the Immigration Service will accept. Keeping families together should be an important goal for the Immigration Service. Then others who expected to stay only a short time as foolish young persons and carelessly got DUIs … then had children with American citizens. Despite the changed attitude with adulthood and parenthood, they feel like the truly damned. Can’t stay legally, but leaving means leaving behind their hearts. Some people really only want work visas and driver’s licenses (in our community there is no public transportation). We need a work visa program where people are allowed to cross the border to visit their families. Closing the border may help keep out the criminal element, but it has increased the number of families who have immigrated because the crossing the border to visit is so dangerous and expensive. I am also very concerned that Mexican citizens who must adjust their status are required to go to the embassy in Juarez. Why can’t this be done in safer cities, too. Like Puebla, Mexico City? Juarez is not a safe place to send young mothers, etc. And they must have two appointments there. Please think about this for safety’s sake.

Immigration Respect, Relief, and Reform in the United States cannot be obtained unless the United States, British, and Israel governments stop colonizing other nations and stop supporting dictatorships. If native people lose their land, are victims of genocide, or become slaves of the industrial complex then they have the right to migrate to the United States, Western Europe, South Africa, China, Russia, South Korea, Japan, or any other nation without the approval of any government. People wake up, wars are not formulated and practice for freedom and human rights!!! Wars are just used for colonization, land privatization, force industrialization, slavery, exploitation, human genocide, dictatorship, and privatization of natural resources such as water, petroleum, cold, and land for harvest.

I lived in this wonderful country undocumented for almost 18 years, during all these years I survived with my US citizen child domestic violence, but even that I was an “illegal” single mother I chose to stay in USA because I wanted a better live and future for my child and myself, even that I lived with fear and in the “shadows” and as a “second class human person” for almost 18 years, all I WENT THROUGH IT WAS WORTH IT! because now my child (almost 18 years old) is an OUTSTANDING member of her high school, the church and the community. She is getting ready to go to college and she is already making remarkable contributions to OUR American Society. Finally after years since I started my immigration process, I became a documented permanent resident of this great country 16 months ago! That is why my heart is with all those immigrants that come to this country looking for a safer and better life for them and their families! PLEASE, SR. PRESIDENTE OBAMA HELP US THE IMMIGRANTS TO HAVE RELIEF FROM THE FEAR AND SUFFERING THAT THE CURRENT UNJUST IMMIGRATION SYSTEM IS CREATING! HELP US TO HAVE THE RESPECT THAT US IMMIGRANTS DESERVE, HELP US NOW TO HAVE A FAIR IMMIGRATION REFORM! For all these I pray! God Bless you all and MUCHAS GRACIAS!

I am an American citizen whose life and family has been torn apart by this administration’s immigration policies. I am very disappointed in my country, especially since my family has been here since the time of the Pilgrims and has served this country in every way since the beginning. I’m actually disgusted by my own countrymen. Immigrants are being labeled criminals, which is such a disgrace to our Constitution and heritage. They are here to work, make a better life for their children, and are not any more of criminals than the American citizens who murder and imprison them in huge numbers. This is WRONG. Please reform immigration policies and stop DESTROYING FAMILIES and LIVES of innocent people. Keep your promises that got you elected, Mr. Obama. The Statue of Liberty should hang her head in shame.

First of all let’s keep in mind that the Quest for the Legalization of Immigrants has been an ongoing problem. Previous Administrations were not pressured to come up with a solution as much as we are doing it now. So let’s be a little more fair when voicing our opinions about President Obama. Let’s not forget that he inherited a mess! That mess took 8 years to create it, and now everyone wants everything solved in less than two years! Not only do we need to request from the President, but also from Congress and the Senate, to come up with a solution to this big problem!
It is in the Governments best interest to at least provide the Illegal Immigrants with a work permit with the option to travel back and forth to their home land while the process to get a green card is pending. The Department of Immigration needs to get rid of the existing backlog that they have for the cases where relatives have petitioned their loved ones. It would not be fair to make them wait longer to get them reunited with their relatives that will “add insult to injury”. The Government can form a group of volunteers from possibly the returning Military once they have had a chance to rest, and to spend quality time with their loved ones and to get a health evaluation in order to get rid of the backlog.
As I said earlier, it is in the Government’s best interest to legalize everyone who does not have a criminal background, first of all to have accountability of who is present in the Country, second of all more Legal People will be able to file more taxes and generate more revenue for the Nation. It will help small businesses resurface, employed and Legal people will buy houses, travel to their countries and elsewhere. Just the process of legalization alone will generate income and boost the economy. So imagine the positive impact that the entire process will bring to the economy! The Airlines will not have to struggle to stay in business, and so forth and so on!
It is not true that the Illegal Immigrants are taking jobs from everyone else! They do jobs that nobody else wants to do. Thanks to their hard work and their sacrifice we enjoy fresh produce, and live in nice and clean houses. Not to mention clean offices and nice Landscape!. So Mr. President, Members of Congress, and the Senate; Deportation is not the answer to the Illegal Immigration problem! It is a failed system and it contributes to deteriorate the Economy and family values more and more. Separating families is inhumane! Please forgive everyone who crossed the borders illegally; they did it out of necessity and in search of better opportunities. Those of us who have children know that we would do anything to put food on their table.
To those People who have no tolerance for the Illegal Immigrants; I have a reminder. If you are not American Indian, your Ancestors came from somewhere else and they were granted legal papers No questions asked, so don’t feel so righteous now! In God’s eyes we are all equal, and when we die we all become ashes!. You know what we also need to do, to get the Indians a better way of life. They live below Poverty levels and out of civilization! We invaded their Land and displaced them ! Shame on us!
I strongly believe that; penalizing people who employ or house Illegal Immigrants is not the way to solve the problem. After you legalize people then please create laws to regulate those employers who take advantage of the people because of their status. Specially, there are a lot of them who withhold taxes and do not report them the IRS. Others pay partial salaries in cash to avoid paying taxes. Others make people work long hours with no overtime pay. But if you keep putting them out of business by taking away their labor force, and on top of that penalizing them; then the economy will sink deeper and deeper in the hole.
For Arizona, and all of the other States who want to adopt similar policies; I would like to remind them that Prince William County in Virginia was a prosperous County thanks to the presence of so many Immigrants, and the prosperity of that County was destroyed by implementing harsh Laws and unfair treatment towards the Immigrants. So, everyone please analyze what you are doing. Being hateful and harsh and attacking people because they are supposedly stealing jobs is terrible. I would like to see a Lawmaker, or an Executive or for that matter anybody who opposes to the Illegal Immigrants presence; to go and do any of those jobs that I mentioned before, under all kinds of weather conditions and you will learn to Respect and threat those people with more dignity, and stop looking down on them. They are all human, and do not deserve to suffer as much as they are suffering only for coming to do jobs that no one wants to do!
Everyone, please try to study English and to follow the Laws so no one will say negative things about us!(If you can pursue higher education; even better)
Thank you and May God Bless and Guide all of you, and May God touch the hearts of the Lawmakers to come up with a Just solution to the problem. And may God also touch the hearts of the hateful people so that they can behave better and begin to love and accept their fellow Human Beings!

Reform means that the leaders of the United States believe and uphold the words penned by our forefathers, as set forth in the Declaration of Independence, God has endowed men with certain unalienable Rights and that no legislature and no majority, however great, may morally limit or destroy these; that the sole function of government is to protect life, liberty, and property and anything more than this is usurpation and oppression.

Reform means our leaders will come to the aid of Americans by reforming laws that DESTROY American lives and the families of AMERICAN citizens and in turn, they are DESTROYING America.

Reform means that America and her leaders believe that American’s marriages and families are precious, they are sacred in any culture or religion. America recognizesthe marriage and the family that results of this bond, throughout history, marriages have tribes and nations.

Reform means America upholds human rights by protecting American family and by protecting families, America is protecting itself.
America EXPECTS its citizens to do whatever it takes to defend her when needed, yet America’s leaders have ALLOWED laws to exists that DESTROY the lives and families of the very AMERICANS they call upon to defend her.

Reform means our leaders care. WE, American citizens, need our leaders to defend us and our families.

Reform means AMERICAN families will no longer be decimated and suffer from the removal of the hardship provisions that once protected American families’ unalienable rights.

Reform means the spouses, sons and daughters of American citizens can live together whole in America.

Reforms means our leaders uphold the unalienable Rights of American families endowed by their Creator as our forefathers championed in the opening statement of “The Declaration of Independence”.

Reform means laws that are merciless, harsh, cruel, show no concern for American family unity and do not allow anyone to make reparations will no longer oppress American families.

Reform means the Human Rights of the People take precedence by instituting new laws to protect American citizens and their families, laying its foundation on such principles.

Reform means laws that are unjust that are merciless have no place in America.

Reform means our leaders recognize that when the rights of one individual are violated by some law, it puts the rights of EVERY individual at risk, especially if such a violation does not go unchallenged. The leaders met the challenge and took on the issues as did our forefathers had.

Reforms means the end of a destructive force in America that destroys families, forces American citizens into exile in an attempt to keep their family united and financially ruined American families.

Reform means Immigration laws will be fixed before more American families are destroyed and suffer at the hand of our government.

    But most of all…

Reforms means I will be able to come home after work and have my family there…

I will be able to play with my son at night…

I will be able to kiss my wife “Good night” each and every night…

I will be able to assist my mother in her old age…

We will be able to raise our son together…

I will be able to meet all my obligations as a husband, father, son, provider

Because I am one of these American citizens whose family is being ripped apart and on behalf of my wife and son (also an American citizen) and ALL American families under these oppressive laws…

    PLEASE… I am begging you… Please.

Reform means that our leaders hear and are listening to the outcries of America’s citizens and that they do know what is right and just…

Keeping American families united is the right thing to do.

Reform the Immigration Laws, allow immigrants to make reparations and return the hardship provisions for American Citizens and keep America’s families united and strong.

Reform means, we will keep America strong.

I do not care if people are here legally or illegally.
My French family came here in the 1850s, without papers. [at that time the Pope was trying to take over the Mississippi Valley].
My Irish family came in 1903, without papers [ at that time Irish need not apply and were all drunks]
Most families came here for a better life, without persecution for their beliefs.
What scares the daylights out of me is this new Arizona Law, and other states who also want to enact it.
Have you read the 1850 Fugitive Slave Act? Only the word slave has been substituted for illegals. It also contains persecution for those who and enable and protect the slaves /illegals.
It will create the same results, Kidnapping of both legals, and illegals mainly the Hispanic, for a monetary reward.
When will we have to create a new Underground Railway?
Is this Arizona’s answer to creating new jobs?. Bounty Hunters, just like in the good old days.
People have to eat today, they can not wait 10 years for permission to enter the country.
So many people could never come here legally, because of the destruction, the U.S. has done to their countries in the past, and theft of their natural resources by our corporations. Leaving them with the stench of pollution, and depleted resources. Many will be killed on entry to their own countries.
Look at how we just enabled Honduras to set up a puppet military regime.
The “legals” of our own country wallow in the own arrogance, and ignorance of the history of their own country.
A truly great country , will count the people we bring from the bottom to the top, not how many we can keep at the bottom.
We fail completely in our humanitarian skills.
We have became a zoilist nation, a true nation of hate.

Some people has not realized that in this country we are all inmigrants unless they are Native Americans. We all deserve to live peacefully and not feel prosecuted by anyone. Reform means that I get to have a chance to keep my family together and watch my kids grow. We demand JUSTICE and a REFORM NOW…

Mr President, it sure looks like you just wanted our votes, you made promises that you probably never intended to fulfill. By not doing the immigration reform, you are destroying this country, with every day that passes without immigration reform, more and more damage and destruction of families continues to occur, legal and undocumented people are part of this country and it has always been that way since the creation of this great country. Why don’t you fulfill your promise? It is about time that you show action and courage. Talk is cheap. If you show courage and action, when you leave the White House comming up people will say “Look, a man is leaving the White House” If you fulfill just this one promise of immigration reform you will never know how great of a hero you will be and how much you will help heal this great nation, and how much destruction you would have prevented, the entire country will feel the blessing because we are all connected. Look at how now every one has suffered financially and economically due to the persecution of undocumented workers that started primarily by republicans almost immediately after Sept-ll-01. As the persecution of the most vulnerable people on the bottom of the food chain in this country started, many americans praised it. Look at them now, they’ve lost their houses due to forclosure because those “illegals” coudn’t buy the cheapest houses on the market. Look at how a lot of us have been financially affected with the down turn of the economy because this persecution has not stopped. For as long as there is not an Immigration Reform we will continue to suffer as a nation because those little people on the bottom are not spending their money, they’re not buying houses. So, hardly anybody can sell their houses, the real estate market is stuck because “These undocumented people are the ones who moved the houses on the bottom”. By not doing the legalization we as a nation are in a self destructive path. Look at sharks in the animal world, no matter how hungry they are, they will never eat or destroy the little fish that swim attached to the shark’s bodies, these little fish are the clean up crew that eat all the growths and bugs and desease that could potentially kill the sharks. In this country the sharks are eating and destroying the little fish, as this goes on, we are becoming weaker. We must wake up and as a nation do things that makes us stronger.

It means that immigration will have one humane law to abide by, so officers will not be granting status to people base on how they feel or what mood they in, also they will know that is people life and future they dealing with. And it also means that the CSPA bill that was sign in to law by president bush, will be properly interpreted, so children that age out from all family and employment category can rightly be converted to the appropriate category and retain their priority date, instead of getting a new date when they turn 21, and put back at the end of this lenghtly line for another 10 years.

    Hello,

To everyone who is ignoring this problem. Imagine waking up being afraid to drive afraid to take your family on vacation and not being given the respect that every human being deserves. I thought President Obama was going to work for the people. The people are demanding something be done and and end be put to the ICE raids and the descrimination that many immigrants are dealing with daily.

reform means not only those living in the US are affected, but the ones whom have been deported are too. Especially, the messed up immigration acts made in 1996.

Rework is right – America needs to reform our immigration policies and efforts. We have turned our backs long enough on the massive illegal entry into our country. We are paying the price for not enforcing our immigration laws. America needs immigration reform to include realistic numbers of visitors for travel, work and education. America needs to make the process for legal entry faster, easier and less expensive. America needs to make laws that are enforceable and ensure they are enforced. America needs to be sure that any U.S. city, county, state or other jurisdiction that serves as a safe haven for illegal aliens looses all federal funding for public work projects and the leadership of the jurisdiction is punished. The United States needs to ensure that any employer who knowingly employees an illegal aliens is punished with no less than a $2500. fine for the first offense and increasing larger fines and punishments for repeated offenses. The United States needs to eliminate the born here citizenship policy. Above all, the United States needs to drop the “pathway to citizenship” concept. That concept is a slap in the face of United States Citizens and legal immigrants and makes a mockery of our laws. There can be no amnesty for those who illegally enter our country. They become criminals the minute they cross into our country and they compound that crime every day they remain here. U.S. citizens who commit that many crimes are labeled as “habitual criminals” and can be imprisoned. Why should illegal aliens be treated differently? When we send a U.S. citizen to jail or prison they are separated from their families; why should we give better consideration to illegal aliens? The illegal brings the punishment upon themselves and should be man enough to accept the punishment when they know they committed the crime! America has become the great nation it is because of the people who live here and that have come here under our legal immigration program. We do not need illegal aliens coming here telling us how they are to be treated, trying to change our laws, and sniveling because they are not welcomed with open arms. We need to first enforce the laws we have and get rid of the illegal aliens, then reform our immigration laws and policies and welcome those immigrants into our country that are willing to obey our law, come here legally, and accept our way of life!

Are we not AMERICAN citizens? Residing in this country for several years, we can’t work under our names and support our families to the highest potential. Don’t you see that deporting is breaking up our families? Don’t you see that no one is going to do the dirty work once these people are gone? These hardworking, courageous individuals live here, struggeling everyday.

A young man can’t go to college to further his education because he didn’t arrive here illegally. Since when is there a ban on learning?
