This week over 100 events are happening throughout the country to call for immigration reform in 2010. From the evangelical community in Grand Rapids, Michigan to labor leaders in Alaska, diverse voices from around the United States are standing up for what is right.
This is the year and now is the time. Throughout the country supporters are coming together to demand that Congress take leadership on this issue and find sensible solutions to our nation’s problems. It is, after all, why we elected them.
Below are just a few of the more than 100 events happening this week to kick off 2010 for immigration reform. You can check out our full event list to find one in your area.
Tomorrow, in Chicago, advocates are embarking on a bus caravan, dubbed “Next Stop: Immigration Reform” that will visit 10 Congressional districts in one day. And the Chicago week of action will culminate in a rally, Full Citizenship, Full Employment, for Full Equality, with labor unions, African-American churches, and community leaders. Confirmed speakers include: Congresswoman Jan Schkowsky, Congressman Danny Davis, Congressman Luis Gutierrez, and Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Today in Baltimore, faith leaders are gathering at the historic St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church (originally founded by Irish immigrants) to call for “rapid reform of the broken immigration system”.
In Colorado, tonight advocates will gather for a rally in Aurora and will attend a Town Hall meeting with Sen. Michael Bennet tomorrow in Denver.
Tomorrow morning in Oregon, advocates from CAUSA Oregon will march and rally at the district offices of U.S. Congressman David Wu and U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley, asking Rep. Wu to co-sponsor CIR ASAP and asking Senator Merkley to urge Senator Charles Schumer to introduce a simliar bill in the Senate. 
A full week of action, “Our Work, Our America”, is planned in Washington state, culminating in a “March for Justice” to Representative Rick Larsen’s office, urging him to support Comprehensive Immigration Reform now.
This handful of events is only the beginning of what is going to be a huge week of action for immigration reform. Add your voice to the thousands of others fighting for what is right: send a free fax to your Senator and find a local event in your area.
Together, we can win immigration reform in 2010, but we need every voice to join in the fight.
