Today and tomorrow, hundreds of leaders from across the country are gathering in Washington, DC for the 1st annual Advancing Justice conference. The conference, a joint project of the Asian American Institute, the Asian American Justice Center, the Asian Law Caucus and the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, centers around advancing the civil rights of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
As you might guess, the schedule is full of workshops and sessions about immigration. Here is a glimpse at some of the topics on tap:
- Immigration Enforcement in Our Own Backyard
- A Monumental Stake: Reflections from Key Stakeholders in the Fight for Immigration Reform
- We, Too, Are America: Strengthening Immigrant Integration Policy in the United States
- Comprehensive Immigration Reform
- Accessing Quality Health Care: The Challenges for Immigrant Communities
There are Reform Immigration FOR America campaign partner organizations attending, including the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, the Asian American Justice Center and the National Korean American Service and Education Consortium.
Clearly, immigration reform is a priority topic for the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, and it fits into the broader goal of advancing civil rights.
We will keep you updated with possible guest posts from our partners who are attending the event. In the mean time, you can follow the Advancing Justice conference on Twitter @justiceconf and follow the #ajc09 hashtag.
