Nevada gubernatorial candidate Brian Sandoval (R) isn’t worried about racial profiling in Arizona. That’s because his kids don’t “look Hispanic”.
Sandoval made the comment in response to a question on Univision’s Face to Face in response to the question of whether he would worry about his children being profiled in Arizona. Apparently Sandoval, the first Republican Hispanic gubernatorial candidate in Nevada, isn’t worried about profiling because he doesn’t think his kids fit the bill. Evidently Sandoval has no problem with profiling Hispanics in general, as long as his family isn’t affected by police harassment and constant suspicion.
Sandoval, the sitting Attorney General, later tried to lie about the interview, claiming he never said what El Tiempo quoted him as saying. But respected Nevada political reporter Jon Ralston has indeed confirmed what Sandoval said, and Democratic candidate, Rory Reid followed up as well.
I wonder if Sheriff Joe Arpaio would agree that Sandoval’s kids don’t “look Hispanic”. Maybe they can all consult Rep. Brian Bilbray, since we all remember his fool-proof method for detecting undocumented immigrants.
