UPDATE:

Labor advocates have taken the stage, holding numbers to represent the $1.5 trillion dollars in Gross Domestic Product that could be added to our economy over the next 10 years if comprehensive immigration reform were passed.

chi_union park

In Chicago, IL, marchers are gathering in Union Park right now. The crowd is huge, armed with signs that say “Friends keep promises” and ready for action!

The march to Daley Plaza will begin at 3 PM.

CHI_buckets

In the mean time, DREAM students from the Immigrant Youth Justice League held a “coming out” ceremony. Armed with buckets that spell out “unafraid” the students will continue their “undocumented and unafraid” crusade for justice.

A quote from the students:

I no longer blame myself now I blame the immigration system that made me a criminal before I could walk.

Labor leaders also said a few words to the crowd as the park fills up with marchers ready to make their voices heard today.

CHI_youngin

This young activist hoists his sign up high, calling on Congress and the administration to stop tearing apart families and pass CIR NOW!

Will be posting pictures and updates as they roll in from the Windy City

    this issue is so emotional for me as a 2nd generation in America;
    mi Madre came to this country with esperanza (hope) to have a better life. She is a citizen of this great country and the day she took her oath it was bittersweet for her because she felt so Mexican and a sense of betrail came over her… I never understood her feelings as a child until now; I am American born and raised with English as my primary language but i am 100% Latina and the issues with mi gente breaks my heart…not in a million years would I have imagined us latinos will be the outcast!!!

    We will keep fighting for our rights and “dream” of being a part of this great nation as MLK said we need to come togetther as One…

    Everyone has to be somewhere. May all beings have freedom from fear and enjoy a home where they are safe and an environment where they can flourish together in peace and harmony with others.

    “Few will have the greatness to bend history; but each of us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total of all those acts will be written the history of this generation … It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is thus shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.” Robert F. Kennedy, Attorney General & Senator
    THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO SPEAKS OUT AGAINST THIS INJUSTICE!!!

    What a bust! These marches are pathetic! All a bunch of organized Unions, illegal alliens and misguided americans supporting the destruction of America. There were way more Tea Party protestors without the strong organiztions employed in this fiasco. Way less attendence than predicted!!!
