Today, the Department of Justice has announced they are suing the state of Arizona over it’s recent immigration law, SB 1070. It’s about time. The law, set to go into effect July 29th, would mandate racial profiling and has been denounced by everyone from the Major League Baseball player’s association and major sports stars to local police chiefs, from state legislators to the President himself.

I applaud President Obama and the Department of Justice for taking this step to fight hate and unjust immigration policies in our country, but we must remember this is not enough.

Laws like the one in Arizona are a direct result of inaction on immigration reform. In order to fully fix the problem, we need real reform.

If you agree, send a message to President Obama saying thanks for this first step, but we won’t be satisfied until comprehensive immigration reform is a reality.

I would like to see this blog to be flooded with comments. I need every single Hispanic to start voting this November against Jan Brewer. I need every Latino to start calling your congress representatives and if their not doing their job vote them out of office. I need everybody to start learning English and it should be priority in your life if you want to live the United States so your rights are not ignored or abused. Please show a lot of pride for this country and what it stands for and what it has given you. Learn the culture of this country. Immigration reform is good but what are the Latino people are willing give back to this country (United States) in exchange. Remember, JFK quote “Think not what your country can do for you but what can you do for your country.”
