Tuesday was big day, but we aren’t done yet! Building on the momentum we’ve created this week for immigration reform, tonight there will be another Family Unity event in San Jose, California.
DHS Janet Napolitano will be speaking tonight at her alma mater, Santa Clara University regarding the question: “What is the role for the Department of Homeland Security in our networked, 21st century world?”
She will be greeted by members of local communities, their families and supporters, and busloads of others from throughout the Western Region of the U.S., rallying to denounce the detrimental impact of the Administration’s immigration enforcement programs, which have separated ten of thousands of families and instilled fear in families and communities. Americans everywhere are demanding immigration reform in support of family unity.
Before the rally, advocates will hold a press conference, calling on DHS Secretary Napolitano to halt raids, deportations, 287g agreements, and E-Verify program. Program includes testimonies from families directly impacted by the broken immigration system.
“Our families are the pillars of strength and the glue that holds together our community as well as any other community across this nation. What we ask is that DHS Secretary Napolitano and Congress moves forward on a practical and realistic solution to the broken immigration system that is tearing our families apart. Based on last year’s elections, we know Americans care about their families, neighbors, co-workers, and parishes impacted by the lack of action on this important issue,” stated Richard Hobbs Richard Hobbs, interim executive director for Services, Immigrant Rights, and Education Network (SIREN).
We will keep you updated on the day’s events.
