Representative Luis Gutierrez stands up with co-sponsors to introduce the CIR ASAP act!
Its official, the fight for immigration reform is heating up. The press conference to announce Representative Luis Gutierrez’s “CIR ASAP Act” has just ended and now the real work begins!
Today, Representatives from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, the Congressional Asian and Pacific Americans Caucus, the Congressional Black Caucus, and Congressional Progressive Caucus joined Congressman Luis Gutierrez, to introduce the “Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America’s Security and Prosperity Act of 2009” (CIR A.S.A.P.) in the House of Representatives.
During the question and answer session of the introduction, there were a few questions asked to the effect of “Why will it pass this time?”. Representative Gutierrez answered:
We are getting confidence from the mosaic you see here. This bill has 89 cosponsors. Last time it was introduced it had fewer than 25.
Not to mention that we have the support of folks like you who are working hard to send faxes into your members of Congress and call the White House to send a clear message that you support immigration reform NOW!
The more than 89 co-sponsors of the CIR ASAP act have delivered on their promise to introduce a just and humane immigration reform bill before the holidays. Now there is no more excuse for inaction!
An overwhelming majority of Americans want practical solutions to our broken immigration system that promote our best values and uphold our traditions as a nation of immigrants and laws. Americans want an immigration system that will be fair and serve the real interests of hardworking taxpayers, workers, employers, and families across America.
Tell your members of Congress to support immigration reform now. Its up to us to keep the pressure on!
